Any of our American chums got it yet? We have to wait another ten days before it comes out here. Why?

Still looking forward to HL2 more though.

It's happily chugging away on my 3.2ghz, 1.5Gb ram and Radeon 9800 machine.

Looks the dog's borrocks

But sadly I'm at work, so I'll have to wait until this evening to give it a proper play test

Finally managed to get a copy

First impressions?

Oh. My. God.

First time in a long time I've been scared by a computer game Since the original Doom probably.

Definitely one to buy

I know what you mean - althought my PC needs upgrading now I think

Some reviews apparently are saying that it gets a bit repetitive -

1) you go into a room
2) something jumps out
3) you shoot it
4) goto (1)

But we'll see. I'm 3/4 of the way through splinter cell pandora tomorrow, so I'm finishing that off first.

Hmmm. How's it going to be on a 2.8GHz, 512k ram, Geforce 5700 machine?

Well, I've now turned all the detail off (except Vsync) and it's now running at about 30fps, so the best of luck to you!

Oh dear, I have a 2.4 with 512MB and a GEForce 4 Ti4600, so I think I might be ... DOOMED. Or should that be DOOM3D

I've got an Athlon XP3000 and a Geforce4 Ti4400 and it chugs a bit at 640x480

Considering a Geforce 6800 GT as an upgrade, but they're not in good supply yet to the prices are still high.

I'm running it on a 3.2gig P4/1gig ram/GeForce 5900XT at medium quality @ 800x600 and getting between 20 and 60 fps.

So basically I shouldn't even buy it yet.

Oh well, I still have plenty of other games on the to-do list, since I've been pretty focused on MOH for the past year. Perhaps Shadows of Undrentide, that should take a month or so.

Apparently this can make a big difference to fps depending on the amount of ram you have.

set image_cacheMegs "128"

for more tweaks try here

Cool! I'll be playing with those tweaks tonight!

Also, I see these are on the Upset Chaps clan site - I used to work with one of the Upset Chaps a few years ago

I'm running it on a XP2600 mildly oc'd, with 1G Ram and a 9800 Pro. Set for High detail (not 'Very High Detail') at 1280x1024 and it is running super smooth.

How do I find out FPS?

I don't get this, every recent game I own I can play at 1280 or even 1600, and don't get any problems, with high detail. TOCA plays fine at 1600x1200, Spiderman at 1280x1024, MOHAA, battlefield, all at 1600x1200 all at high detail...

All of a sudden Doom comes out and my PC is obsolete... What?!?!?

What chance do I have for Half Life 2 when it comes along...
