(I'm sure Four Wheel Drift will be along swiftly to help)

Right then, I've spent the last few weeks slowly getting back into GPL. I've downloaded an array of addons, my tracks have high detail textures, the cars are all higher detail and the game is looking stunning.

I'm up for some multiplayer racing with the fellow PH GPLers, but my question is... how?

Do I enter an IP address somewhere? When do you guys meet up for races?

Also, just wondering what laptimes people get at Silverstone and Watkins Glen (the only two tracks that I've played for more than a few minutes)

Best Lap Silverstone: 1.30.9
Best Lap Watkins Glen: 1.07.4

Thanks in advance

we play through VROC and those times are quite good, especially if you have only started playing gpl again

As mentioned VROC, created a chatroom called Pistonheads and a password of piston. same pw for joining races.

We race normal 67 cars Tuesday from 8pm. The new 65 season cars Sunday from 9pm.

www.tartan-rug.co.uk/gpl/ for the calendar & results table.

www.tartan-rug.co.uk/forum/default.asp for the forum.

Thanks guys, sadly I'm learning Japanese on Tuesday evenings (it's easier than GPL BTW) but I'll get back to my PC for about 8.20pm, hope I can still join in

I'll try and get everything set up for next weeks race.

I was actually slighty confident until I looked on the fourm and saw that FWD did a 1.04 laptime at Watkins Glen!! I'm gonna have to watch that replay

Holy crap that's a fast lap, totally sideways, very different to how I drive, guess I'll have to practice my FourWheelDrift

We race on after the league races, they start about 8:15 finish by 8:50'ish but then we often have fun races after.

Well, I've tried for an hour replicate your way of driving. Braking late, throwing it into the corner, kicking the back end out and guess what, I've been spinning for an hour.

Do you use seperate pedals? I've only got one Y axis, so when I come off of the brake and onto the throttle, there's a brief moment when there's no power at the wheels and I think that's what's causing me to spin.

Oh well, I guess I've only been playing for a month, lots to learn

I have a Momo Racing FF wheel, pedals are on a seperate axis.

I don't want to tell you how to suck eggs or anything, just how I drive the GPL cars I actually brake earlier than most, but lighter, very smoothly but with some throttle still applied to control the back end of the car. I then come off the brake smoothly applying the throttle smoothly so as to not spin the wheels too much.

I also run agressive diff/clutch and brake bias. I guess you have downloaded my 1m04 at Watkins Glen? My setting there are - 30/60 with 1 clutch and 51% brake bias, although I do normally run anything between 49-53% brake bias.

But something like 84/45 with 3-4 clutches and 53-55% brake bias should get a consistant laptime too if don't have the use of seperate axis on the brake/throttle pedals.

Practice is the key though. What circuits had you driven in the Ginetta? If they have been made for GPL and on the GPL tracks database you could have an unfair advantage - http://trackdb.d2g.com/

One more thing, although the Lotus will ultimately be the quickest car anywhere except circuits with long straights where the Eagle might just nudge it, it is also the most difficult to drive quickly, it;s very twitchy and nervous and suffers snap oversteer very easily. Try other cars, you may find one that suits your style and you'll be reliably and consistently quick. This season I have been doing all the league races in the BRM, 2 race wins and current league leader The Cooper is probably the most stable to start on, it will give you the confidence to push without spinning which you could take onto another car. Since racing the BRM and going back to the Lotus I have been taking big chunks off my personal best laptimes - http://gplrank.schuerkamp.de/php-pub/user.php?showDetail=1,1,15500

Thanks for all that advice FWD. I haven't actually looked at setups yet, all I've done is emptied my tank of fuel to give me enough laps to finish a race.

Haven't really driven many circuit in the Ginetta, I'm sorry to say it's too unreliable to last a track day. Although I did do a few Radical races a couple of years back, so I know Donnington, Brands, Silverstone (international), Snetterton and Oulton Park quite well.

Anyway, I think I'm going to need to upgrade my pedals so that each one is independant. I've got a nasty habit of trying to blip the throttle on a down shift and all I do is reduce my braking force.

The only GPL car I've driven is the Lotus so maybe I should have a go at a few others. It's a shame the Ferrari doesn't seem to be up to the job since it sounds some damn sexy.

Right, I'm not going to have much chance to tinker with GPL until Tuesday as I'm off to Classic Le Mans. I'll do my best to meet up for a race in the evening.
