Hi,

I've been a die hard pc owner for years now and had never even considered getting a console, but lately I've been hankering for a PS2 just so I can play GT3 and GT4 (whenever that may be). Trouble is it seems a bit of a waste spending all that just for the one (or 2) games. Add to that the fact that I'm pretty skint at the moment...

So I was thinking about picking up a second hand one from Game or Gamestation or wherever. Does anyone have any idea how much these go for? What kind of warranty comes with them etc? Or is it just a lot more sensible to shell out the extra and get a proper new one. I just see them and think "oh, £140, not bad", but I know by the time I get an extra controller, the games, memory card, long cable to reach my projector on the ceiling, cable for stereo etc it'll end up being more like £250. And then I think for £250 I could pay for a couple of real track days or something...

If you can afford to run two cars and a projector you can afford to buy a PS2, stop being such a cheapskate!

Seriously though, keep an eye on an ebay bundle with all the bits you need, should be able to save yourself a few quid there.

Well...it wasn't so much that I can't afford a PS2 as much as could I justify it for the one game. But after deciding that I would get one, second hand or otherwise, I started thinking about getting other games. Now the list of games I want is long enough to easily justify a new one.

I'll be out late night shopping tomorrow

There's a branch in Leeds or postage is free. (Yes I do work for them).

A PS2 is 85 unboxed or 90 boxed and comes with a 1 year warranty. Games go from £2 to £32.

When buying a PS2 make sure you ask for a '5 series' or 'SCPH50003' model number. These are the new ones and Sony have fixed a lot of MAJOR design flaws.
