Wow!, Bloody hell! Awsome!
This is the best war game i have ever played!
Graphics 9and 1/2 out of 10
Game play 9 out of 10
motion graphics/video - 10/10
Addictive 10/10
realism10/10
overall 9 &1/2 /10

I spent about an hour doing the tutorial which is essential to get the best game play.
The story line is pretty much black hawk down but you are there and it is so real.
A totally new way of controlling alpha bravo teams.
sculking round the back streets of bagdad etc to reach your objective and engaging in gun battles along the way. This is about as real a game as i have played where using correct military tactics is concerned.
Be warned they all swear and say stupid things and real things in fact they could be regular us marines.
When i first saw the scenery i thought oh yeah this will never work untill you get to play in it and the game becomes alive.
I would think this is an excellent tool for making your typical teenager into a seasoned veteran soilder before he even leaves school. Which is why i guess they made it really.
I CAN reccomend this game wholeheartedly.
Did i say it was good.
Rent it first though!
Take a look at the gamespy review , it's pretty much spot on.

Bearing in mind that I love Halo & the fact that I actually get to do the shooting myself, do you think I'd like FSW as it's all about giving orders rather than interacting directly yourself?

October me thinks

Very good game by the way and no, you never get to shoot anyone yourself, it's all about telling your team what to do.

Sorry for the late reply!.......busy.
You don't actually get to shoot anyone as in first person but you can direct your teams to engage targets ( tangos ) with a variety of different methods.
It IS a training tool and as such it can get a bit samey, but; It makes you think!
In fact i think it's much more fun going from cover to cover using your shadow team as covering fire. If you do try running down the middle of a deserted street you will be dead sooner or later.
I have been playing it for a while now, in fact it's overdue and i'm into about the 6th mission.
I have to say that the ghraphics are now better than my original excitement expressed. The mood music is very, very good too. It is very easy to become sort of tranfixed or should i say involved when you play this game properly!......No i shan't be appearing anywhere with a kitbag full of guns! but it is gratifying to the point that if you launch a point attack on an individual tango you may be surprised and indeed shocked by a single loud crack from your rifleman when at othertimes 3 or 4 men may have engadged for 20 seconds or so.
Also there are some particularly nice touches like being able to zoom in on the action and see a particularly gory and realistic end to your foe.
This is in no way a game for kids!!!!, they use the "F" word all the time along with several other juvenile sayings and are constantly slagging off each other and every one else. Particularly annoying when you are trying to listen to new orders on your radio and jimbob is telling corp develroe about his wet dream etc, although they do make me chuckle.
Which is why it is all the more realistic when amidst an arguement and insufficient cover an RPG might zip through the air towards you and explode metres away sending shrapnal ( in slow mo sepia effect ) into jimbobs helmet and thus ending him in a particularly real and grotesque way.
"Take em down soldier!" is an expression frequently used by your commander; which always makes me laugh.
"What here? but im in the middle of a gun fight"

i heard FSW is based on or produced by the same soft-co that makes a training sim for the US Army

Apparently, once you complete the game, you unlock the US Army training sim. I say 'apparenty' because I've finished the game and I can't find the training sim anywhere. But I've read many reviews of the game and they all mention it, so it must be in there somewhere. It's also supposed to me much better than the main game!!

From the link above in my first post to gamespy i took their wording to mean that FSW is the sim.
The first two paragraphs.

I am a casual gamer.

I do not like overly complicated games or games which require a Ph.D to understand all the different buttons and button combinations.

However,

this game ROCKS!

It is the danglies. You should all check it out! just rent it and go through the tutorial (about an hour).

Just the way it makes you think is "awesome"
