it seems absolutely huge.. gargantuan even! bigger than battlefield anyway

E3 video of Arma 3 - 1/3 http://youtu.be/qhb44o4Dd48

Online Arma 2 - http://youtu.be/bGpZ2bbaYT4

they say that its even more teamwork and tactical than battlefield!

Its no BF/CoD game, thats for sure. Depends how unforgivingly realistic you like your games, as in ARMA, 1 shot usually equals death.

And if you're playing properly, your spawn point is usually an airfield or ship, so you have to wait for your teammate to pick you up in the chopper - and your first 'gamble' starts there, as you hope he's not some tool who can't fly. Few mins flight time, crawl to the combat zone and hope you don't get popped by a stray bullet requiring you to start the above proceedure again...

Ok, the above example is extreme - but it gives you an insight to the depth of the game, and how it usually plays out. Its *very* good, indepth and tactical but it is *hard* and unforgiving.

Those with ADHD who just like to run around like Rambo, taking 50 bullets before having a lie down to regenerate before grabbing twin Uzi's and running into the fray need not apply.

ARMA2 (the current one) is one of the best games I have ever played.

Looks ok but not exactly superb graphics? I think I'd rather have BF3 with 36-48 players!!

I used to love OFP and Arma 1 and 2… but since I fell out of favour with PC gaming and was swayed by the ease of console gaming I just shudder at the thought of the movement, physics and general clunkiness of all Bohemia Interactive's games. My favourite moments were messing about with the level editor biggrin If they can sort the movement, interaction, vehicle physics and supernatural AI then I'd be tempted to build a new PC for it…

Flash graphics aren't the point. It is much more of a simulator than battlefield is. It's a bit like comparing Hawx to DCS A10 (which is great even if you need instructions to even start the plane). They are completely different styles of game.

may have to make this my first PC shooter.. looks amazing, and each kill will come with a rather large amount of satisfaction!
there will always be a time for a quick CoD session but this looks brilliant when time allows.

It's only as good as the other players on the server, 1 or 2 dheads can ruin the game/simulation. With dedicated players though, it is possibly the greates infantry game ever made. Teamspeak or Ventrillo is a must, Track IR is a massive help as well.

Track IR make flying the little birds very immersive. Being able to look down and to the side by just moving your head makes landing so much easier.

ARMA 2 was good fun but the controls were very clunky and nothing was that smooth running, if they can iron out the bugs then it will be great.

This is a proper simulation, bullet physics are spot on, even the fire rate of an A1 is bang on. People have hit models so a flesh wound to your arm will throw off your aim, a shot in the leg might down you or cause you to crawl where as a shot to the chest is pretty much game over. No "I'll just hide for a bit and feel much better" crap

I'm looking forward to it being implemented in BF3

Agreed about this. Due to the fact this game relies heavily on teamplay and tactics far more than most, means that public games are usually very poor. You need to get into some properly organised private servers.
