The next two races on a regular tuesday night race are Non-championship races.

So if you have been wanting to join in, but have been worried about finishing last, nows your chance to have a few races...

We are racing at Oulton Park this sunday, it is the V2 version found here...

Now I have broadband I am thinking of joining you guys in your GPL races (assuming thats ok of course!). I need to buy a PC though and was wondering what spec machines you guys are using for GPL with all the pretty graphics add ons about nowadays. needless to say I want maximum FPS

It's CPU intensive so FPS isn't really dependent on Graphics card, although the better ones will be able to give you higher screen resolutions (I run at 1600x1200).

CPU is an AMD 2400+ and I have 512mb of ram.

I always get 36+ fps (36 is the max showed even though it could be higher). Mainly on high res 16bit versions of circuits, but there are a lot of 4bit versions that look just as good if you notice any slow down. Turning off any background tasks helps too for online racing.

its definately a hard game Dave. I had to play it for a couple of weeks before I could even lap without spinning... Have you been using the keyboard? A wheel and pedals are almost essential for it... Once you have a sensitive enough right foot to accelerate without spinning then you have to learn how to brake... which is harder (i think). you can drive less powerful cars than the F1 cars in it though, which makes it a bit easier...

Is there a list of files/mods I need to download to play the game online with you guys? I can see myself going to play, realising I've missed something, download that, try and play again, etc...

Um well apart from VROC we also use another online server called iGOR that comes with the 1965 cars (much better grip, 1.5 litre V8 and V12 screamers) from the 65 season. They can lap as fast sometimes faster around the twisty tracks.

65 Cars add-on, GEM+ car/season chooser & iGOR. - http://55and65.speedgeezers.com/gpl65/
(Download, install and run GEM+ to sort things out)

And of course add-on tracks from here - http://trackdb.d2g.com/

Cars from here - http://gplea.racesimcentral.com/

And loads of other things here - http://forum.rscnet.org/forumdisplay.php?f=36

just to get it running, all you need is the all in one patchhere(on the left hand side) and vroc those will allow you to play online

Looks like I won't be racing tonight - I can only assign keys on the number keypad for controls, but even then it doesn't steer.
My gamepad is a serial jobby and as I don't have a sound card any more, it won't plug in anywhere!
I'll order myself a new pad I think.
