"Light" laptop game - strategy maybe?

Hi folks,

I'm stuck in a TravelLodge for a couple of weeks, with naught but a laptop to keep me occupied.

So, does anyone have any recommendations for something engrossing that'll keep me entertained on a business oriented lappy (ie not exactly heavy on the graphics - it's a Latitude E6500) that I can download.

If via Steam or GoG, so much the better, I have accounts with them already.

And I've plenty of porn, thanks

Minecraft is pretty processor intensive.

Only ever downloaded the demo, but still pop it on every now and again for a hit of simple RTS wargame.

Minecraft is pretty intensive, far more than you'd think. How about:

Age of Empires
Transport Tycoon (Free! With OpenTTD)
Theme Hospital (try the awesome "Corsix" High-Res update - http://code.google.com/p/corsix-th/)

Oh, and Steam have two "Indie Bundles" for sale at the moment, each one is 5 games for £6.99, look pretty decent.

Minecraft needs discrete graphics, onboard graphics would be slack to say the least!

Yeah, I've discovered that - even on the Fast rather than Fancy gfx settings, it's a bit sluggish.

Transport Tycoon sounds like a winner - used to lose days on that.

Chessmaster? Really good fun playing through all the tutorials.
Civ 3 - last of the non graphics intensive versions of the game series.
Command and conquer and Red Alert?
And an oddball one: Uplink. Become a hacker and hack your way through a global conspiracy. The demo is several hours of fun and will let you work out if you'd enjoy the full game or not.

When was that? It was playable on my netbook a while ago but a few updates from Mojang have put an end to that, it now barely runs. Still 1.8 is better than 1.6 and 1.7 was!

Great turn based strategy/shooter game. Simple to pick-up but potentially very 'deep' if you get into it. No whizzy graphics so think it runs on pretty much anything.
