I want to try the Kinect goodness but I know I'll be bored of it after few weeks so ideally I want to spend as little as possible.

Does it work with ALL the 360 versions?

I can get a 2nd hand non-slim ones, 20GB for around £60, then £50-60 for the sensor.

Another question - does the sensor have to be connected to the console itself or just to the mains?

The xbox would be in the opposite end of the room, so would need 10m between them if that's the case.

the kinect sensor (when bought standalone) comes with a power cable which is needed for the older 360's as the usb's on the non-slim boxes doesnt supply enough power, on a newer xbox you'll just need the lead from the kinect to the xbox.
(so basically dont buy a kinect sensor say 2nd hand from someone who bought a new console/kinect pack, as then you wont be able to use it at all on an older xbox as that sensor wont have a power cable)

But any kinect sensor with the power cable should work on all xboxes, ive tried my kinect with my elite and my old original "arcade" (base model) xbox! both work fine.

couldnt tell you how long the cable is though, cant remember and its all packed away.

Surely its USB, so you'll just need a extension lead if the original cable isnt long enough?

It looks like Microsoft are doing something funny with the cable as a standard USB cable doesn't work.
