PS3 xbox Wii HELP !! please
Discussion
Hi Peeps,
I am hoping somebody can throw up a few suggestions for me, I know little (well, nothing) about games consoles but fancy buying something secondhand for the winter months (when i can't fly my models outside because it's too dark or wet).
Flight Sim games seem to be more plentiful for the Pc, but I really don't want to sit in my little hole on the computer, so something that plugs into the TV in the living room seems the best option.
I am told the controllers for PS3 are wireless which is ideal for me
Are all consoles easily unplugged & moved to another room (when 'er indoors throws me out of the living room) ?
i have watched the demo for HAWX 2 which seems as if it's a decent game & cheap enough.
other games i fancy are passenger jet type sim / helicopter sim / construction equipment sim (digger)
Not into footy or racing much at all really.
So .......... which console ?? Any suggestions for games that might float my boat ?
Any help much appreciated :-) thanks

both xbox and ps3 controllers are wireless - u will have to wire both up to charge them though.
hawx 1+2 is out on both consoles
however 360 is exclusive for the better ace combat and the forthcoming ace combat 2
hawx 2 was a let down for alot of ppl though
ontop of that you have the battle midway too for ww2 plane games - i think they're 360 only too.
aside from that sadly plane games arent the msot popular.

You can get IL2 Sturmovik on PS3, and it plays very well!
Certainly it's between Xbox and PS3, and for me the fact that PS3's also play Blu-rays, and access iplayer and ITV catchup and all that through the same box make them an ideal "Living room" console. The Xbox is slightly more online friendly, and based more around hardcore gamers. I have both and find myself playing the PS3 far more. they've just had a price drop too.
Hawx, unfortunately, didn't get very good reviews. But you could try your hand at the upcoming Battlefield 3 which is an online multiplayer game (first and foremost) and has jets and helicopters to fly in it. A good pilot is an essential part of an online team.
However, if you really do want proper sims (and it sounds like they are what you'd enjoy most) then PC really is the route to take. You can get sims for everything on that. Perhaps try a few to download and see how you get on, as a low cost option.

Many thanks for the advice chaps, it looks as if a xbox 360 might be the best way to go for starters. No idea why but the 360 seems half the price of a PS3 on ebay & I hope that being a new starter with consoles it will do the job for me ;-)
I do understand what you say about the PC, but I really want a console so that i can pop it in whichever room I feel like using it in.
Some of the games mentioned seem interesting, also Ace combat 6 looks as if it might be my sort of thing :-)
Now to try & get one sorted out :-) Being impatient, it's gotta be local, available & priced fairly ;-)
thanks again

Be wary of "cheap" xboxes - The first generations of the consoles had some fairly catastrophic design flaws, leading to them not powering on properly. Unfortunately, many of these have made their way onto Ebay and the second hand market, often with badly done temporary fixes (involving wrapping them in towles to overheat them or putting the main board in ovens...)
At £150-£200 new, I'd be looking for a new one so you have the backup of Sale of goods act and warranty.

i'd agree on the cheap xbox's
dish out either on brand new one or get a 2nd hand new shape one from gamestation - ur getting a 12 month warranty wtih it plus u can buy extra. the new shape is less prone to the breakage
thing is with xbox - they're throwing the money at the developers so its getting the cosy deals etc.
xbox only flight games
ace combat: fires of liberation
over g fighters

with the ace combat - they released a limited edition flight stick to use - it was japan only but a few made it to the uk - with this new one coming out i'm sure they'll merchandise one again.

Not sure of the problem regarding PCs and TVs.
Most recent PCs have HDMI out so will plug into flat screen panel thingies. So with regards to moving a machine from room to room, you have to unplug the machine from the monitor and the machine from the power. Think you'll find you need to do this with any of the systems you've mentioned.
With a wireless keyboard and mouse a PC will do what you want, and give you a much bigger choice of the games you want to play.

Thanks again for all the advice chaps. I do understand what you are saying about secondhand units, alas too late, i bought one tonight from a gumtree ad.
360 Elite with 120gb HD, wireless controller, hdmi cables, boxed with manuals & 7 or 8 shoot-em-up games included.
got home with it about 8pm & have tried the shoot games, not my thing at all. But there's a couple of demo's on the HD, one of which is a racing game, pretty good :-)
got it working on xbox live within a few mins, nowt downloading ace combat demo to get a "fix" before bedtime :-)
So far i am VERY impressed with it, this coming from the bloke that would never play games & is a PC freak !
Not so sure 'er indoors is gonna be happy if i relocate it to the bedroom later tonight LOL
