Love it.

Its mainly a driving school (with the lessons explained by the voice of a certain Miss. VBH) and an arcade mode to play with the spoils.
The graphics are a pretty huge step up from GT3 Concept and the 5 tracks included are pretty good (what am I saying, the italian track is utterly fantastic).
Lots of Jap cars to play with (including a FastnFurious style Celica beleive it or not) and a few european ones peppered in the mix.

Stand out cars have to be the F1GTR Fina (longtail), Toyota Traithalon thing, 350Z Roadster (roof down, animated Driver), Viper GTS (seems better than before) and the. . . . .

2004 M5 Concept!!

So chuffed the M5 is in there, very fast, and on road tyres it is very very tail happy (bit understeery if you get the entry speed wrong but a quick lift sorts that out). You have to get gold on the second set of licences to get it though (which is pretty hard)

Considering this is just a demo for the full GT4 its a top game. The extra DVD is also worth having, some nice cars shown being tested and photographed (included 3 Ferrari's and several Porsche 911's).

go and buy it.

Very good!
I like the way it teaches you to race properly without bashing the other cars out of the way.
Bit worrying that vbh and the maker say that it will teach you how to drive like a real racing driver.

The dvd was really good and a nice little bonus that might be worth watching a few times. Bit crafty that they had a ferrari in it, i think that was a bit of poetic lisence and it may have belonged to one of the makers on their so called fun days. So far as i know there is no ferrari in GT4.

There are some top sounds for the new cars, the Merc/AMG sounds particularly beefy. Some of the racing cars sound cool too. Although i don't like the same old rehashed noise they use for sqeeling tyres and breaking.

I found the rally lessons quite hard although i have the feeling that they are more realistic than the old ones. Plus it was a nice bonus to see that the cars actually do proper jumps.

Another good point is that racing cars will tramline or spin out if you go onto the grass at speed. Also if you hit an object particularly hard then there is an automatic 10 second penalty and your car will only do pit lane speed for the duration of the 10 seconds.

The courses are pretty good too although still too colourfull imho they could use some of the dirt and grime in normal cities so the mood is a bit more realistic.

I think there are 64 cars to play with in total and you still get a choice of tyres and turning off/on driver aids. I didn't see the point of the Toyota Prius thing in the lesson where you have to conserve fuel. so i cheated because i couldn't work it out, just made sure i crossed the line in 1:49 and got bronze.

All in all a pretty good game although i doubt the arcade mode will hold my attention for more than a few months. A very good prelude to GT4 and worth the £20 odd if you can't wait for the real thing.

Aha!!

didn't know there was choice of tyres!!

Played the japanese version ages ago at work.. and seeing as I can't understand japanese, it was quite difficult to tell what to press!!

Did unlock most of the cars though..

those that have it.. is it like GT3 if you choose road/sim/whatever tyres and turn the aids off??

If so.. I'm off down the shops tomorrow!!

You can turn all the aids off (one button for all aids, no split between ABS and Antiskid this time round) and the choice of tyres is Road, Sports, Normal and on the race cars they default to race tyres (go figure ).

Getting all the licences is pretty easy, but getting Gold in all of them is pretty tough.
Got the gold in the first 2 colours (green=Triathalon, Orange=M5 concept) and only 1 away from gold in the blue.

How f**kin hard is it to lap the New York course twice in the time it requires? I can get within 2.5seconds and I'm not even usre how I managed that to be honest. . .

but love just jumping in somthing very tail happy and driving the italy track. Some stunning replays available.

Well worth buying as according to rumour your Prologue save game will be usable in the full game (licences maybe?)

yeah.. BUT ...

IS it as slidey as GT3 if you choose the least grippy tyre (presume "road") ??

i.e. quite difficult to keep things rwd and grunty in a straight line.. but emmense fun if you like drifting...

the drifting is what's kept me playing GT3 4 years on.. (or however old it is now)..

so I want to know if Prologue is the same in that respect...

erm . . .yeah, its very very slidey if you pick the right car.

The M5 concept has the ability to spin them in third mid bend if provoked :eek , and then be very controlable. Only downside is that seing as its a bit heavy it can understeer on the way in if your too heavy with the entry speed. Getting the balence of entry speed/exit throttle can be a challenge.

The Evo's etc slide all over the place, and the Viper is a right laugh as always. (350Z is also a good drifter)

There does seem to be a really noticable change in the handling that takes a little adjusting too (understeer is a bit more realist than before if you try stupid entry speeds).

Once your used to this you will love the first track. It's short and has some very wide corners.

Me thinks it was made for drifting

Are there any TVRs in this (semi) game?, or do we have to wait for the full fat version?

I read something a few months back that with the prologue sales they have already paid off the creation of the game.

No TVR's I'm afraid.

But the full game does have quite a few including the T350.

Thought about the whole paying for part thing, but then thought, what the hell. Love GT3 and GT3 Concept, why not.

. . and the extra DVD is pretty good too (videos making of GT4, Making a driver, full game footage, gallery etc)
