What kind of game is it?
Brink is an immersive shooter that blends single-player, co-op, and multiplayer gameplay into one seamless experience, allowing you to develop your character across all modes of play. You decide the role you want to assume as you fight to save yourself and mankind’s last refuge for humanity. Brink offers a compelling mix of dynamic battlefields, extensive customization options, and an innovative control system that will keep you coming back for more.
Who's the Developer?
Splash Damage created this game. The British company specializes in shooters, and is best known for the Enemy Territory franchise it made for id Software. Splash Damage is the company who created some of the most popualr multiplayer maps for Return to Castle Wolfenstein.
What's the story?
Brink is set in a dystopian near future on an enormous floating city called The Ark, which hovers above an area off the coast of San Francisco. Two factions battle for supremacy: The Resistance and the Security. Each is armed to the teeth and fighting to the death. Both factions are playable in multiplayer.
Multiplayer/Online?
Drop-in online co-op is enabled, but really Brink is all about the multiplayer. Up to 16 players can battle at once in objective based modes. There are four character classes -- soldier, medic, engineer, and operative-- and each has his or her own specilization. Brink promises a ton of character customization options too, so your enemies will grow to tremble before your fearsome visage.
What'd we say?
From one of our many Brink previews:
"Brink walks a fine line between being hardcore enough for the 'core-audience and easy enough for the beginner. Whether it will actually succeed in opening up the world of FPSs to the non-FPS inclined remains to be seen, but the demo that I played proved one thing beyond a doubt: Brink is very, very fun.
And from another:
"It is exciting to consider just how many meaningful interactions Splash Damage has included in their design besides shooting. This multifaceted approach to team combat was on of the definitive charms of Enemy Territory and it seems like Brink will be a beautiful revision of that experience. It’s got colorful visuals, a fanastic animation system, and a story set in the moral grayzone of class conflict. Brink doesn’t seem like it will upend the shooter genre, but it so far seems to be a suprisingly rich and thought-provoking variation."

In summary, it is excellent

It's a bit like the Battlefield series in that it's team-based objectives. Most multiplayer is rush-style attach & defend, with the bonus that you can build (or destroy) side objectives to help your team advance, like machine gun nests, destroy walls to allow you to flank around, etc. Anybody who has played Enemy Territory will recognise it straight away, the character classes are the same (assault, medic, engineer and spy) and you can design your own character model to carry through single player, multiplayer and co-op.
It isn't ultra-realistic like Battlefield or COD, it's designed to be more "fun". Plus there's some sort of parkour system to allow you to climb and jump across a huge amount of different terrain, but I didn't get the chance to try that.

This is exactly what i'm after, you don't see mission based MP much anymore and RTCC/ET did this very well.I've been following Brink for ages now and I am hugely excited for it. It looks like a fantasic idea, I love objective based shooters like this. Quake Wars on the 360 tried something similar but ended up falling completely flat, but I am confident Brink will excel. The graphics are awesome, the guns look good, the level design looks good, the story sounds good, the free running thing looks good - I expect I'll be having a lot of fun on friday!

I really want this to be a good game, but there does seem to be an awful lot of folk not liking it at the mo.
Usually fan boys of other games. I never take a blind bit of notice of game reviewers as most have another agenda.Wait until it is out and hear from sane people who have bought it.

A slighty more promising account, of course it could just be a paid for review.
Seems a lot of the negative feedback is from single player and the use of bots, which is not what a majority are interested in. Will have to wait and see what it's like when released on friday.

I have been looking forward to this for a very long time, however, the reviews are very much hit and miss. Gamespot and IGN both gave it 6 out of 10 whilst both Eurogamer (8/10) and the Guardian (as stated above 4/5) rated it well.
What the reviews all share is that this is a real team based game, if you have a strong team you will likely have a much better experience.
I suppose we will just have to wait and see what it delivers, I am still going to be getting it though as there isn't much else out at the minute.
If nothing else it should provide for some interesting new gameplay which is slightly different from the FPS out there at the minute!
Daz Bock on Xbox Live if anyone wants to add.

released today and the reviews are going live, seems in general that it's an 8 out of 10.
Will be getting it this lunchtime, feel free to add me as I reckon this will be a game best played with friends rather than randoms!

Well, I've been playing it for about an hour and am slightly disappointed. I seem to be struggling with the aiming a little in that my lack of skill is burning ammo a bit quick.
I'll give it a chance though and see if it gets any better.
GT : Veteran Sid if anyone's interested
I was playing online as the solider class and could therefore replenish my own (and my teammates) ammo. However, I couldn't compete engineer only objectives, I got downed a fair amount (more kills than deaths but since I was playing the "meatshield" at objective points so I was doomed to be a bullet magnet). Had a good team with me though so it worked really really well, medics had the time between respawns to help me back up, the engineer had his back protected and so was able to hack/repair relatively quickly.I'll give it a chance though and see if it gets any better.

Whoever stated you get a much better experience by playing with a good team than going it alone was spot on.

Diff guns have diff allocations of ammo, may be worth trying out a few others, I have a meaty assault rifle as my primary but it only has 90 rounds, and a scar as my secondary and that comes with 180.Doing the challenges unlocks most of the guns and mods, so worth having a crack at that if you havent already.
