Why preorder ? Do you get extra content ?

I ordered GTA V for PS3 on launch night. Stood in the queue, got the game, got it home, installed it for about an hour and then downloaded for about another hour and now it was 2:30am and I had to get up for work at 6:30am :-). It was the only midnight launch game I had ever lined up for.

Just buy off the online store and download it? Can pre download it so it’s ready to play.

Argos apparently dropped the ball and accidentally leaked the pre-order date will be the 12th of Dec. As it’s exactly a week after the first trailer it seems credible.

I’ll pre-order too, no there’s probably little tangible reason to, but I’m as excited as I was to get GTA 3 however long ago that was!

Q3/4 seems like the obvious release date, but I’m sure I’m right in saying that pretty much ever big R* release has been delayed.

I'm looking forward to this, though I think on every GTA ever I've spent 99% of my time just driving round, and on the occasion where someone cuts me up I blow them up with a rocket launcher, and then continue. hehe

Online I never played much of the actual game modes, rather just went round running people over because I know it winds people up.
Swooping down in a fighter jet and mowing someone down never gets old biggrin

I don’t know what the answer is but gta 5 came out 10 years ago, assuming 6 comes next year that’s over a decade since the last one, just way too long.

What if 6 is a flop, they have to get them out sooner

If it takes 10 years to create and release a good game then so be it, would you prefer it be released after 8 years and be plagued with bugs/be underdeveloped (Cyberpunk 2077 for example)?

And this is exactly why most games are released too early and unfinished. If it takes 10 years then it takes 10 years.
They’re obviously making enough off GTA Online to sustain the longer development timescales.

The company could bring out a new GTA every year with not much difference (e.g. like Apple with new iphone releases) and force consumers to shell out £60 a year for the latest version.

It is extremely admirable that they have not done so.

In fairness, it's taken 10 years to get this far partly because they were busy making $7.7bn from sharkcard sales on GTA Online. Online 'cost us' a scraped GTA 5 DLC and probally a good few years development on 6.

I don't really enjoy the online part of GTA 5 and never really got into it. The story side though was brilliant and that's why I buy the games.

Hoping it either comes out this year for Christmas as I have 2 weeks off and could play it then, otherwise an autumn 2024 release could be quite good as it would align with a schedule op which means a week off which is perfect timing to have a new GTA to play!

Currently have an Xbox X but wouldn't rule out buying a PS5 if needed.

Oh give over, I’m all for not rushing games out in bad states but 11 years!, what’s next, GTA7 takes 2 decades?

The reason they’ve sat on this so long is because 5’s online is the cash cow it is, they released GTA5 three times, they've milked the game to death, if online wasn’t generating the income it has then 6 would already have been out

Again, I don’t games been rushed to market in bad states, but there has to be a middle ground here

A GTA 6 that doesn't make people go wow would permanently damage the franchise.

They could have released an incremental GTA 6, paid off reviewers and critics to give it 10/10 ratings and enjoyed a huge short term spike in sales and kept the current user base. But the new younger generation would not then gave the same love for it.

They will be extensively testing GTA 6 with consumer groups before releasing.

I would love it if R* said "Suprise muthafkers, it's coming out tomorrow!" but I don't see it happening.

No chance.

They would have had to give Sony and Microsoft a years notice to ramp up production for a start (and show Sony and Microsoft a near-complete game in advance to convince them it is really that good) or the supply won't be there, and no news of any such factory production increase.

And there will a billion dollar global advertising campaign to accompany the launch which will take time - it's why even the biggest boxing matches are announced 6+ months ahead, as all the promotional stuff is needed to maximize the actual event and bring in the non-hardcore customer.

For sure it's wishful thinking. However Argos did mess up with a 12th December pre-order date. If the release is online only then you wouldn't see any factory changes at all. I'm interested to see how it all goes though!
