Advice on sim racing gear

Holy thread resurrection. A sim addict friend of mine recently brought his ps5 round and tried it on my (now) old fanatec csl elite setup... he smashed his personal best on his second lap and 1/2 an hour later offered to order me a csl dd and clubsport pedals if he could take mine there and then... Long story short I've been using his old G29 wheel and pedals the last month and, to be kind, it's a childs toy. If anyone is contemplating which to get just stop and get the fanatec setup. If someone is thinking of upgrading but not sure it's worth it, it absolutely is, there is no comparison. This has been a public service announcement!
My Fanatec DD (with boost kit), wheel and universal adapter turned up on Monday, managed to sort of fit it to the Playseat challenge, Only a single T-nut holding it as the holes don't marry up so I'll be drilling out new ones at the weekend.
Therefore it's not really had a workout yet but it seems very smooth, detailed and way better than my T300.
I'm happy with it.
Not sure the wife will be if she ever bothers to ask how much it cost. I think the answer of half a handbag will suffice.
A few weeks ago I also wired a couple of rumblers to the rig. Does increase immersion, not sure it helps with realism.

You've cost me money I was on the fence (more a knife edge) about pre-ordering the gt dd pro to replace my G29, but I've just gone for it. I'll be thankful to get rid of the horrible deadzone in the G29

You're welcome! Seriously though there is no comparison and I only had the csl elite base (non dd) and the g29 pedals are worse than the wheel.I was on the fence (more a knife edge) about pre-ordering the gt dd pro to replace my G29, but I've just gone for it. Of course I just found out today that my csl dd is delayed till January so I have another month with the g29 ughh
I had a Thrustmaster T300 RS GT on backorder for ages with Amazon that showed up recently. I tried the same back in lockdown 1 and Amazon gave up after however many months they try for.
Anyway, it's my first experience with a wheel, I ordered a playseat challenge to use it with and initially only playing Gran Turismo Sport with it.
I have played it for years (and previous GTs) with controller so it was quite a change. Really enjoying it though when I find time to play, biggest difficulty for me is the braking, I am already looking at a loadcell mod or loadcell pedals because I just can't figure it out accurately at this point. It came with a rubber cone mod you can use to I guess increase the resistance but I think that is not very useful compared with a loadcell.
Any thoughts on a loadcell mod vs just getting some "proper" loadcell pedals? The rabbit hole is open at this point :P

I noticed the fanatec CSL pedals are now ''just'' 200 euros. No idea how much your mod is or how good it will be but the fanatec stuff is excellent. So long as the mod measures pressure not pedal travel, gives you a proper firm pedal and has some decent firmware/drivers I imagine it will be a huge improvement on what you have.Any thoughts on a loadcell mod vs just getting some "proper" loadcell pedals? Just to wade in with my dilemma, I have an Xbox one x and thrustmaster TX wheel and pedals I desperately want to try VR racing and that doesn’t look to be. a possibility on Xbox in the near future.
The PS5 looks tempting because of the prospect of PSVR 2 however nothing is confirmed yet and my thrustmaster gear won’t be compatible on the PS5
Am I just better off getting a pc, and how much would I need to spend to get a decent rig for VR aim racing?

At the moment an absolute fortune, I mean probably not much change out of 3 thousand; the price of graphics cards is just absurd. My 2070 gfx is 3 years old and costs 1000 quid now or 3 times as much to buy today as it did in 2018 and twice as much on ebay used and that's probably the bottom end you want for a semi good vr experience, then you need the rest of the box, psu, mb, cpu, memory etc plus vr headset, screen... . Not sure I could bring myself to pay that for what today wouldn't even be that high end.The PS5 looks tempting because of the prospect of PSVR 2 however nothing is confirmed yet and my thrustmaster gear won’t be compatible on the PS5

There is little vr racing on the PS. Very limited.
PC is best, but as stated it’s pricey. I replaced my VR rig this year and it cost me just over £2k for an i9/3080 based rig. You could do it with some lower spec cpus and gpu but I’d not go lower than a 3070 for a quality experience.
It’s another grand for an index but a teathered oculus is less.

I assume by replaced you mean just the internals reusing all your old peripherals/screen etc? The last 3080 I saw for sale was 1500 alone! Must admit I haven't looked for a while as a result...PC is best, but as stated it’s pricey. I replaced my VR rig this year and it cost me just over £2k for an i9/3080 based rig. Thanks for your reply. The mod I was looking at is: https://www.loadcellmod.com/I appreciate the fanatec stuff looks great, only problem for me is I will be playing Gran Turismo Sport a bit on PS4 and I guess the easiest way is to keep it all integrated with the Thrustmaster wheel? So I would then be looking at the T-LCM pedals, which seem to have pretty good reviews. A similar price point to the fanatecs you mention... any thoughts?
The mod looks well made and integrates neatly with the existing pedals I have, so for £67.50 I think I will give it a go in the new year.
^ Ah sorry I see the LC mod is more of a purchased upgrade than what I envisaged which was you taking an angle grinder to your pedals and bodging together some bits from the RS catalogue and demon tweeks ... can't go wrong for 60 quid! I think that probably has to be the best bang for buck upgrade anyone could make.

I got a loadcell mod for my Logitech G29 pedals. With hindsight I'd probably rather have just coughed up for the TLCM pedals as they look pretty decent.
The Fanatec CSL ones look good but the loadcell adapter for those is showing as not in stock until March next year, might wait until then. Since I'm paying for postage from Fanatec anyway then good excuse to add a DD and wheel into the order
