No, I've gone back to Factorio
I found with crossbows you really need to put some effort in to training with them, give your shooters some really crap junkbows or toothpiks to start with, and your swordsmen some decent armour but crap weapons, and that way they'll hold off the bandits while your bowmen shoot everyone including your own blokes. Your fighters end up looking like pincushions but the bowmen improve pretty fast.
I have attempted to use crossbows many many times before. Every single time I switch them to swords so that they can defend themselves, they get good at swords etc and I never switch them back as they become too useful. None have ever got skilled enough before to use more than a junkbow or toothpick. This time I have 7 worker drones, led by Beep, and they are getting pretty decent. They all have precision shooting well into the 80s and some are getting good enough at crossbows that I am going to give them better bows soon. They aren't bad at swords either, probably in their 40s on average.
I have bought and fixed up almost the whole of The Hub. I leave a few buildings for the Holy Nation Outlaws to live in but there are only two left despite my best efforts. I am nearly allies with them and I am an ally of the Hungry Bandits, due to Kaizo mod.
I've been playing a bit of Factorio recently, and found myself wondering if there any similar logistics games with more developed combat element.
I had a quick look at rift breaker but the logistics seem very simple.
Perhaps a straight up military sim with emphasis on factorio style logistics?

There's used to be few build and fight ones around, eg Stronghold where you build, attack, and defend castles. Can't think of a more modern equivalent though, and nowhere near the depth of Factorio in terms of logisticsUltimate Admiral Dreadnoughts new update adding many more hulls and more country specific objects. It's an update you can force on steam downloads.
I tried the new early German Battlecruiser hull, the Von Der Tann/Seydlitz style, but as usual when I wanted it Nvidia screen cap didn't work in this game.

Hoping they increase the scope of the campaign soon as well.... it's a bit limited at the moment! (My point of reference is "Great Naval Battles of the North Atlantic" which I had on the PC in about 1994!)

I think side guns have always been there? Or can you now fit monster guns?
Also, how is that ship not 100k tons?
You have the option to increase ships beam, so you can take the already wide new N3 Battleship design (the Nelson class) and make it even wider so that big turrets will fit like that. Also, how is that ship not 100k tons?
The above ship is 276m long and has a beam of 42m ! That's 4m wider than Yamato.

But a pre-dreadnought design where you can't bring all your guns to bear at the same time. Can you build up decks to mount guns in tiers?
You can put superimposed turrets where there are mounts and some forward superstructure and rear have main gun mounts. But the main options are centreline and side mounts.Give me a minute.

How is that only 64,000t? Where the (first) South Dakota Class was projected at 47,000t with 4 x 3 = 12 16" guns - for a similar speed.
Which means the 17,000 extra tons displacement has added 9 extra triple turrets (approx 1,700t each = 15,300t), leaving just 1,700t available for the additional magazines, machinery, fire control, crew and logistics support to operate them- not to mention the additional weight eaten up by an extra 68m of length, 8m of beam, and the insane structural support required to accommodate 16" wing turrets and the weight of armour needed to cover them...
I'm guessing the game plays fairly fast and loose with the rules of physics!

I've made a dedicated thread now https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...
For those that like Rimworld, early access Going Medieval is on special on steam at the moment. Very similar to Rimworld in most ways (assigning task priorities is identical for example), but in a medieval setting with a research tree to match. The big difference though is the ability to build multi floored buildings. I currently have a 2 story building with a gallery all the way around the first floor for my archers, meaning my 4 colonists just fought off 3 attackers with no injuries. There's a nearby clay deposit I plan to mine and then use the hole as a basement for a new stone/brick building, as the basement apparently remains cooler than the upper floors so useful as a storeroom.
Not a recommendation as I haven't played it yet but worth mentioning that Paradox have made another attempt at getting the Victorian era right and Victoria 3 is out soon
The Victoria franchise is their most ambitious grand strategy game as it moves beyond the warfare and diplomacy focus of the Europa Universalis games to bring in modelling of society and the economy. I hope they can get it right this time because if they can it should be a very interesting game.

Given I now have a pretty nice GTX3090 build PC... what should I be downloading from Steam that will make good use of it?
Right now I've got FS, GTAV, Dreadnoughts and WOWS installed. (plus some much older games)
This thread seems like a good place to ask
For a good graphical experience plus a great game / story Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition (with added raytracing) is worth a shot.Right now I've got FS, GTAV, Dreadnoughts and WOWS installed. (plus some much older games)
