T550R
Germans demand 550bhp Tuscan R!
Christof Flugel from the new German TVR dealership has had a few TVRs in his time and they rarely remain standard. Body kits, Red Rose conversions, you name it he's had it.
It came as no surprise to us then that he demanded even more of his Tuscan R demonstrator. About 100bhp more in fact.
Now we have the first supercharged T400/T440 (or whatever it's called) in build. It's billed as the T550R on their website.

I'd be suprised if the SP6 engine could cope with being supercharged as it has enough problems as it is at the moment. Time will tell though.
I'm not so sure - the increase in peak loads is relatively small, and the S6 problems I've read about seem to be durability rather than mechanical strength. In some ways the engine gets an easier life because you can set it up for more torque and less revs - it's revs that kill an engine.
If you read this Christof, I'd be very interested to see what sort of supercharger they're planning to use, and what layout they've gone for.
i understand everyone's love of crazy power. i loved our 560 sel mercedes, but with a narrowing number of places to enjoy such power i'm suprised manufactures don't go back to raw driving excitment.
i'm not trying to be a die hard old car guy, but i'd prefer to enjoy a drive behind the wheel of a fun car. i hate always searching every nook and cranny for a piggy.
of course in the perfect world i'd have a modern crazy 500+hp beast but in all reality i don't know where i'd use it. i can't hop over to the roads of germany and italy.
just a theory of mine but thats why i think old cars are becoming such a big buisness here in the states.

Hi all,
Regarding the Speed Six engine's capability when supercharged, we have it good authority from Michael Caine (at last night's TVRCC meet) that it is only running at 0.7 bar. This should leave it relatively unstressed.
Spookily enough, he also mentioned that he had seen some new moulds for the new TVR which is 'based on a current model but slighty larger in proportion with a supercharged 5.5 engine in it'.
Seems a bit coincidental huh!
Cheers Craig

Ohhhh no. Is this the beginning of a great big rumour and subsequent ruckus.
Do you mean a supercharged 550bhp engine or a 5.5 litre SP6 engine?

If the 440R does 215.....the 550R with more power should take the fastest production car in the world tittle??.....is the Mclaren F1 still the fastest at 225?? or is the Zonda / Enzo faster?????
I think the McLaren F1 still holds that title at 231mph although the Swedish Koenigsegg is said to be able to top 245mph and the forthcoming Bugatti 252mph.
Doubt it will reach those type of speeds though.
I'm sure Autocar had the Mac F1 at 240.1 mph... or was it 241.3mph I can't remember, one of those two though. I would be surpised if any Tiv's would stay on the ground at that sort of speed!!! Your would need a lot of space to try it that's for sure, I don't think that Blackpool has got the same understanding of high speed aerodynamics as Gordan Murray and his team...
Paul.

If TVR can produce a supercharged R with 550bhp at the wheels then they can call it the TVR cnut, TVR hairyarse or TVR Bellend for all i care.
550bhp.....mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
I don't care what the call it. It is enough to prise me out of my Cerbera. The day I did a factory visit in September I went straight to HHC on my way home and put a deposit down on a T550R
