Hey guys, I'm pretty new here but am ultimately looking for information on buying a mustang.

I lose my company car at the end of the year and have the luxury of being close enough to cycle to work so can afford to get a car to suit me at the weekends, and a mustang is top pic for me.

I am unfortunately still not entirely clued up on what to expect for my budget (about 15k) but from what i have seen i can expect a car between 2005 - 2008 up to about 45k on the clock.
One thing I would really like to have in my sights is that if I can't buy a mustang with a GT bodykit then I would like to ensure whatever model I get I can look into doing this myself.

Any recommendations and pointers welcome, but I think initially i am after a good source to purchase from within my budget.

Regards
Dave

Hi,once you start looking you'll be hooked and won't be happy 'till you've got one. Check the ones that have got the right options specced. Interior upgrades, decent colours and good wheels/tyres affect price massively. The MOCGB website's got more expertise, maybe even one for sale. Always better to buy from an enthusiast. Good luck.

Thanks for all the info guys, much apprciated.
Theres certainly plenty of readin material out there once you know where to look.

PS. The link to Atlantic Sports cars is exactly what I am looking for so thanks for that.

As for the mention of the GT bodykit, it would seem what I initially thought was the 'standard' model is actually called GT, so the kit / look I am hoping to get and refering to is the GT500 look, or something equally as mean looking.

If money was no option, this would be it;

You won't get anything like that in your budget and nowhere near a GT500. Unfortunately the bits from the vast aftermarket don't come cheap, mainly because of shipping costs. You can get a painted GT500 rear spoiler off US ebay for just over $300 shipped, the painted hood scoop you can buy for $220 shipped, the side ducts for just over $300 shipped....the list goes on. It would also be money better spent on lowering the suspension and fitting better shocks as the standard car is fairly soft in the suspender department. Depends whether you prefer show or go.

There are two main GT V8 models - the "Deluxe" which has a vastly plastic budget interior and the "Premium" with leather and door inserts etc.

The bonnet is actually aluminium and the bubbling is due to oxidation of the aluminium from iron contamination. It is resolvable with paint and waxoyl. It is not "rot" in the rust sense.

Highly recommend you go ahead and purchase one.

There is no other car that gives as much enjoyment for such a small outlay.

Mine is actually for sale on this site but I have recently discovered the joy of walking to work and I shall be keeping it.

Drive the dream!

Wow... Thats a pretty sweet buy for the price!

Out of curiosity, if I were to purchase a fairly 'regular' mustang such as this and this, how far can i take the car in terms of looks and performance? I understand this is all heavily bound by the size of my wallet, but is purchasing such a car with a view to tarting it up a complete 'no no', is there a specific year and spec I should look for (I assume always aim for premium) or is it completly doable no matter which I go for assuming a 2005 - 2008 model.

I'm obviously going to go for the best looking / newest and most improtantly low mileage one I can get, but I really want this car to be with me for the long term, hence the interest in making it my own and as good as I can.

The are both V6, is that what you are after?

The mods are endless form power, to handling and styling.
Given the choice I would prefer the V8 but with little savings to speak of and no car to sell it comes down to my monthly budget for a loan which is where im estimating my 15k budget to come from.
I just wanted to ensure im not overly gimping myself by not holding out for any specific model or year to make the most of a long term enjoyment :-)
