Mustang GT-R
Ford unveil 500bhp racing concept
Ford are turning up the heat in the USA yet again, this time with a hot Mustang. The new racing concept is dubbed the "Mustang GT-R".
"The Mustang GT-R blends today’s breathtaking design, Ford Racing’s unmatched history and the most advanced racing technology into the ultimate Mustang ," blurted J Mays, Ford group vice president, design. "Mustang’s iconic image grew with every checkered flag so we think the Mustang GT-R is an appropriate tribute to the car’s 40th anniversary, and a hint at what’s to come ."
The bright Valencia Orange car – inspired by the famous Grabber Orange 1970 Mustang Boss 302 Trans-Am race cars (the Yellow Mustangs) – is a technological showcase that, when peeled back, reveals a number of existing or production-feasible racing parts.
The Mustang GT-R features Ford Racing’s 440-horsepower "Cammer" crate engine that already is affordably available to grassroots racers, and can be tuned to produce more than 500 horsepower under certain race series rules. Last year, a tuned 505-horsepower version of the "Cammer" notched world-class performance and endurance credentials by powering a Focus Daytona Prototype to victory at the 24 Hours of Daytona race.
A true American boss muscle car: big, grunty, bold, a style to like or not. Forget European styling and just dive into this beastie. Come on guys, this has a huge funfactor for bmw 523 money . . . After the new GT40 Ford gets my compliments for making this orange monster.

Cameo this Stang in a good movie! It did good for the 440 Charger . . .
Funny you should mention that... The still shot you included is from the movie Bullit (starring Steve McQueen in the title role), the star car of which was a Mustang -- and Ford recently offered a Bullit Mustang, in the previous generation...
I like the way the design team managed to pick up cues from the second generation 'stang without making it look too retro. The colour combination is a natural (worked for the Toyota 2000S, too).
The Mustang was the original 'pony car' (as opposed to muscle cars). Sadly, the Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac Firebird, the only other 2 cars competing in that segment for decades, have been discontinued...

The front needs a lot more work, the rear wing is quite ridiculous and the whole thing looks like a dog's breakfast. Nice colour though...
The old Roadrunners, Firebirds, Shelby GT 350/500 Mustangs looked pretty nice - but this thing is just plain horrid!
