Hi all, i'm currently living in canada and want to buy a car soonish. In the uk, i always just get cheap beemers, but over here that doesnt seem to work, a uk £500 bmw is like $5k here, so i looked around, seems i can buy a manual v8 SN95 pre facelift mustang for like $4k so, i guess thats the plan.

I've tried googling it buy i'm obviously not as good at googling as i used to be, so i figured you'd guys might know off the top of your heads. but which of the v8's have LSD's as standard?

i cant find figures but i was kinda presuming
boggo models, no
gt's, optional
cobras/posh stuff etc, yes

Or am i talking rubbish, i can only afford a boggo one, and whilst diffs seem crazy cheap out here, i dont have anywhere to fit one/any tools and the only garage in town charges "ski resort prices", so it'd be nice to get a car with one fitted as standard.

Cheers guys

Nick

You'd probably be better asking on www.mocgb.net in the UK or better still, www.stangnet.com in the US. I'm not entirely sure about the SN95 and I know for a fact that while the 2005 Mustang GT has an LSD, you won't find any mention of it in the brochure.

On the equivalent year Camaros, there is a set of codes in the armrest or door jamb which tells you everything fitted to the car but I'm pretty sure all the Z28s had a LSD and that is signalled by a G80 code.

Fords seem to be dictated by a tag on the rear axle:

I found this reply about a '94 GT
"Y is the code for a non limited slip 3.08 axle Z is the code for a limited slip 3.08 axle. 5 is the code for a non limited slip 3.27 axle, E is the code for limited slip 3.27 axle. the limited slip differentials are the Ford Traction-Lok. Im not sure what the nonlimited slips were used in but the V6's got 2.73 im pretty sure. GT 5speeds got 3.08s and GT autos got the 3.27's"

and this reply about 79-86 cars:
Non-locking:
B - 2:47:1 ('79-'82)
8 - 2.73:1 ('80+)
Y - 3.08:1 ('79+)
5 - 3.27:1 ('83+)
F - 3.45:1 ('79+)

Locking:
C - 2:47:1 ('80-'82)
M - 2.73:1 ('81+) (V8)
Z - 3.08:1 ('79+) (V8)
E - 3.27:1 ('83+) (V8)
R - 3.45:1 ('79+) (GT Turbo, '84 SVO)
W - 3.73:1 ('85-'86) (SVO)

and finally, this:
If you are wondering what type of rearend or even what size it is this should help. You can find the axle code on the tag that is mounted directly on the axle housing. Another spot is a white sticker located in the doorjamb there is either a number or letter under axle.
Conventional or "open" rear ends break down as follows: 8-2.73, Y-3.08, 5-3.27, F-3.45, 6-3.73.
Locking or "Traction Lok" break down as follows M-2.73, Z-3.08, E-3.27, R-3.45, W-3.73.

If '98-on LS1 Camaros are the same price, it's a better car.
