It's official. 2011 Mustang gets 412hp from 5.0
Discussion
This should seal the Mustang's power to weight advantage so let's just sit back and await GM's riposte.

Yeah, but it's got a solid rear axle so it won't go around corners. The interior is still made of recycled tupperware, too. All American cars are rubbish.
Glad you've come to your senses at last. Now then, can I interest you in a nice little Nazi slot car.....Oooooonly kidding. Sounds like a good motor if the weight stays around that of the current model. I wonder if the internals will be good for more than the current 4.6? Based on the current blowers that add a safe 200bhp to the stock 300bhp, could we see the new breed of Whipple, KB etc put out 600bhp. I guess the weak link then would be the drivetrain.
Sounds like fun times ahead and time to dig out the Vanilla Ice CD again

I think the only to add is http://jalopnik.com/5429269/five+oh-2011-mustang-g...
I was in two minds if to wait for 'Coyote', it's rumoured that there is going to be a brake upgrade and standard 'track pack' to go with the 5.0 which makes sense if you've driven a 4.6 with it's weedy, spongy brake set up.
However massive discounts and zero percent financing have seen me take the plunge today for a 2010 V8.
I have to say that although the package is good, particularly for the equivalent of less than 20K sterling the 4.6 lack low down grunt and the kick in the pants that the V8 Camaro delivers.
The Mustang needs the 5.0 as soon as possible because it just isn't competing at the moment.

(that's the correct response on Pistonheads, isn't it?)
Uh all the Caterhams go around corners terribly fast and they (except the csr) have sra's I think (that's the correct response on Pistonheads, isn't it?)

That’s much more than I thought. The current base mustang V8 has a MSRP of $28,395. Assume an exchange rate of 1.50
28395 / 1.5 = £18,930
Allow say £1500 for shipping and insurance
= £18,930 + £1,500 = £20,430
Add 10% import duty
= £20,430 x 1.1 = £22,473
Add VAT @ 17.5%
22,473 x 1.175 = £26,405
Add say £1000 for SVA
£26,405 + £1,000 = £27,405
28395 / 1.5 = £18,930
Allow say £1500 for shipping and insurance
= £18,930 + £1,500 = £20,430
Add 10% import duty
= £20,430 x 1.1 = £22,473
Add VAT @ 17.5%
22,473 x 1.175 = £26,405
Add say £1000 for SVA
£26,405 + £1,000 = £27,405
You don't really want a base Mustang though. About $30000 buys you a reasonable spec so that's £20000.
Shipping is about £1000 ro-ro.
Import duty is 10% of the purchase so £23000 to here.
VAT at 17.5% is £27025.
Add diock clearance fees and let's say £27500. Then about £1000 for the SVA conversion and registration and road tax and you should be done at about £28500.
You may need to add on transport costs to and from the docks either end though and marine insurance will probbaly all pan out around £30000k.
But remember that importing an American car means YOU'RE ON YOUR OWN. The warranty is invalid in Europe though in extremis, you could ship it back and forth.

In all honesty if I came into some money, no matter how much, I think the new Mustang would be top of my list. Guess it might sound odd to some, but you can keep your Ferrari's, R8's and even the new McLaren.
In my eyes the Mustang looks better and would do everything I want from a vehicle. Plus I like its heritage and blue collar image. It's a real car for real people...
Well done Ford and I look forward to driving one of these beauties very soon
