Evening All,

I've got an MG ZT-T 260 which, for any who don't know, has a 99-04 2V Mustang engine shoehorned under the bonnet.

Shoehorning is the operative word here. The fit was so tight that the cam covers can't be removed without dropping the engine, as they sit too tightly up underneath the bulkhead. This being the case, I'd not looked too closely into ways of tuning it for a bit more power. Until now.

The "now" bit comes from the fact that I seem to have a shagged slave cylinder. The quickest (relative term, that) way to change this is to drop the engine and gearbox. This means I would be daft not to look into enhancements I can make whilst it's down.

I'm currently thinking along the lines of porting & polishing the heads, swapping out the camshafts and possibly fitting a properly lightened flywheel, so I'd be interested to know 3 things. Firstly, have I missed anything? Secondly, are there any particular parts which are widely recommended? Thirdly, what sort of power hike might be realistic?

In terms of limitations, there's not much room to mess around with the exhaust side of things in there, and looking specifically at the cams, I don't really want to get into retuning the ECU, as it's a pretty complex bespoke system to make the Ford bits talk to the MGR and BMW bits.

Other than that, any suggestions welcome! smile

Unfortunately at £6k, that's price prohibitive.

Even if I had the cash though, I'm not totally convinced it's actually the best route. From what I've seen, it tends to give around 120bhp extra. If the engine is already dropped, saving a bundle on the labour costs, I'm assuming I should be able to get quite a bit of that increase for far less money.

Just how much of an increase for just how much less money is the big question!

May also be worth asking at http://www.mocgb.net/forums/ as there'll be more on there than here with your engine.

Most people tend to go forced induction though from what I can tell.

It's the only way wink
It's also £6k for something between 380 and 410bhp depending on which rolling road you believe. The lower figure was chez Vixpy, and considering that stock 260s were reading a couple of horses either side of spec, I'm most inclined to believe that.

I may be proved completely wrong, but from my initial snuffling around on the web, it doesn't seem unreasonable to think I can get up to around 365bhp for around £1,000 to 1,200 by polishing & porting the heads and swapping out the camshafts, all without completely killing daily driveability.

Guess which I'd consider the more realistic proposal! hehe

mines somewhere north of 465.

give Ian Goss a call.
He should be able to give you a good idea what can be done and an idea of how much
Do you have his number, Steve? I know you sent me the details at some point long ago, but I can't find them.

Limit for me is going to be around 420 tops. MGR specced everything to 450bhp or so on the basis that they were going to produce a supercharged version, so there's no need to upgrade anything until you go past that point.

This lump & superchargers been up for grabs for a while. Its from an MG. The add is now on eurodragster http://www.eurodragster.com/classifieds/showads.as... A good buy if you take in mods/blower etc; As its already mapped may come with chipp/ecu. got to be the way to go. Imagine its a squeeze in that body style. Seems perfect for what you want.

Looks pretty good value if everything works and fits perfectly - not sure what the current engine in Chris's car would be worth though.
Chris - glad you raised the question because I'm looking at doing the same sort of thing to mine but couldn't justify 5000 at the moment!
