Ford Motor Company development director Russell Christophers let it slip Ford is readying an all-new 5.0-liter V-8 dubbed the 'Coyote' that will replace the aged 4.6-liter and 5.4-liter V-8's. He spilled his guts during a recent interview with Austrailia's Drive, he also went on to say he has "seen the performance curves and it is a pretty good engine". The all-new aluminum 32-valve 5.0-liter V-8 would produce around 400 horsepower and 400 ft-lbs. of torque.

This should be a great engine in the all new mustang GT and even better in the supercharged 2011 Gt500!
Bye bye Camaro SS

Yes because it's not like that LS9 can't be blown like the ZR1 is it? An aftermarket supercharger will get you to 600hp or more but much over that makes the cars pretty undriveable. The Camaro SS is always going to benefit from the IRS too. It will be interesting to see torque figures, not just hp figures. It will still come down to whioch looks best and IMHO, that would be the Camaro.

It's going to need it to stay with a blown 2011 5.0 litre Mustang. wink

Lets just hope this new engine isn't the same size and weight as an old school big block (as the current mod motor is).

Also have Ford finally released how to make use of multivalve OHC engines?? lol.

This isn't a dig on the mod motor really, but I never understood what Ford were thinking when they designed it.

Maybe it went something like this:

"Umm lets go OHC on the new 4.6, it'll make it taller, wider, heavier, more complex and longer.

And to top it all, we'll stick with 2v per cylinder and tune it for low end torque and no revs.... " rolleyes

smile

Actually can't wait to see what the new motor will go like biggrin

The current 4.6 is 3v per cylinder and has variable cam timing.

lol, Yeah I know, but it took Ford 10 years of using the mod V8 to get there.

Not saying its a bad motor, far from it and it sounds good. But in 2v guise I really don't know what they were thinking.

Or put it this way, how often to you hear of people swapping in Ford mod motors to kit cars, classics and such compared to the number that use a Chevy SBC or a Ford 302?

I agree. Of the two, I prefer the LS engines for the simplicity, capacity and power. Hmm, maybe GM would like to use that: "Simplicity, Capacity, Power, (bankruptcy)"
