tang at hUpgrading the Shaker

Guys - I'm hopefully picking up my 'Stang at the weekend...and about the first thing I'd like to do to it is fit a different double DIN head unit...to give me some decent built in functions etc.
I've been looking at the Kenwood and Pioneer media units...question is, how is the Shaker 500 linked up behind the dash? Does it have separate amps etc or is that only the Shaker 1000? Can I just plug the Kenwood into the car or do I need a converter?
