Guys - another one for you...

Are the US imported GTs substantially different in terms of mechanicals than the Official GCC/Middle East ones? I know the spec can differ wildly, but are things like engine cooling, oil type, air conditioning enhanced at all for being in the Gulf? I would guess not, as the US 'Stangs have to cope with Death Valley and the like...

The biggest issue I've got with it is warranty. And I'm going there with my eyes open. Considering buying one from a guy here in Dubai who imported it himself from the states.

Cheers,
J.

Hi Jezzaaa,

I've heard rumours that there are minor tinkerings with A/C, rads, filters and the like to deal with the heat and the dust. But...the more I look into it the more convinced I am that it's just a parallel to the EU/UK import (non) argument. There are so many US cars here I doubt that it would be a problem for aftersale either.

Just be happy you're comfortable with the car and the seller as I have heard rumours about stolen US cars being shipped to Dubai. If he's got all associated paperwork you should be ok.

H

Edit to add - out of interest have you found anywhere better than dubizzle and souq to search for mustangs in the UAE?

Hi Hitch - ok, thanks for that. I think it's probably the local dealers making a fuss cos they don't want unofficial imports here! As I said, the US has deserts, humidity and similarly high temperatures so i don't see that there would be much difference other than spec wise.

I haven't found anything better than Dubizzle to be honest, no. Souq is annoying because it's a sort of auction. The only other one I look at is autotraderuae.com...but the choice is pretty limited.

Re the correct paperwork, do you have any idea what that would be? The trouble with over here is it's all in arabic for the most part so it's difficult to decipher.

Cheers,
J.
