Auto or manual?
Discussion
Guys - I'm just about to buy a 2006 GT in Abu Dhabi...and they're mostly automatic over here...or at least non of the used manual ones I've seen are in the condition I'd want. So I've found this one that is in lovely condition...but it's an auto. I don't mind that too much...I'd rather have a manual, but it's fine for using over here. Question is, I might well want to export it back to the UK when I eventually move back. Is there a good market for autos over there amongst the Mustang buyers, or is manual considered to be a must??
Cheers all,
J.

Mine is a baby V6 Pony Pack auto and I love it!
Only my second auto car and to be honest I may never go back to manual (unless its a GT500) just nice relaxing driving.
Dont know about the buyers market over here but plenty of the recent mustangs I have seen have been auto boxes.
At the end of the day dont buy a Stang with a view to sell it on, buy it with your heart and not your wallet

Ah a good mixed reaction then. Actually, I've been tempted by the dealer to buy a new one...they happen to have four new GT Premium manuals in stock...two black, two blue. It's almost double what I was going to spend, and I'm worried that the 2010 model will arrive here in January and make it worth spit. Decisions....!
Cheers for all your opinions.

2010 is lovely but I thought not expected in the UAE until March/April 2010. That's almost a year of waiting which would be too much for me.
How much are they asking for new models at the moment? Any discount due to the 2010 being in the pipeline?

They're selling the 2010 in the US now and I dare say there are plenty of good deals on 2009s if they have any left. I am always amazed how they sweep the fUS orecourts clean of all old stock the second a new model appears. How much are they asking for new models at the moment? The new 2010 GT Premium is about $31000 MSRP. Certainly in the UK, they are not selling anything like as fast as the last one did because the collapsing exchange rate makes them about £34000 to buy. They also have the problem of the sequential indicators to over-ride.
Oddly, this has driven up the second-hand prices of 2005-9 Mustangs which are now harder to find as people hang on to them (and many prefer the old design). Someone who paid £18k for a 2005 a few years ago wouldn't lose very much on it at the moment if it's still a low mile car.
Not tempted by the 2010 Camaro?

Hi Hitch - The guy in Al Tayer told me the first 2010 model cars are due Q4 this year. Supposedly starting at around 150,000dhs plus options. I put a deposit down on one of the new 2009 ones last weekend...hoping to pick it up this coming Saturday How much are they asking for new models at the moment? Any discount due to the 2010 being in the pipeline?

I got them down to 123,000dhs. They had already knocked them all down from 135,000dhs to 125,000dhs before I enquired...and then I got another couple of thousand off. Plus all the usual free insurance, 3 years servicing etc. All in all I was quite pleased. I was so fed up with weeks of searching around for a used one...saw and drove so many sheds and US imports with strange specifications and no history...nightmare!
When I was there last weekend, they had about 9 or 10 2009 cars left, and the guy told me they're not getting anymore of the 2009 model. About 3 convertibles (red, black, blue, auto and manual) and and about 6 or 7 coupes (blue, black, orange, white, auto and manual). The orange one was still 135,000dhs, but had the glass roof...which, had it been any colour other than orange, I would have had!!
In the end, I ordered the Vista Blue manual coupe with Black and Parchment (Black and Camel they call it!) interior. There were two blue manual cars which were identical. Quite excited about picking it up now Will post some pics...
Cheers,
J.

They've only got 4 left now, was tempted by the black V8 manual...
Hi Matt - thanks for the invite to the track event on Friday...apologies that I couldn't make it in the end.Re above, is that the whole stock...manual/auto/coupe/convertible?
I wonder what deals they're doing now...although I almost don't want to ask! I heard a rumour that they've reduced the price down to Dhs.115,000.
They also seem to have alot of GT500s sitting over in the Al Tayer garage too. 2 upstairs on the showroom floor, plus at least 4 out the back in the garage where I collected mine from. Wonder what deal you could get on one of those???

They said to me, without any bargaining, that it was 125k for a manual - and 5% APR.
I reckon with a bit of pushing they would do a similar deal to yours.
I asked about the GT500 but IIRC they were about 240k, which is a bit more than I wanted to spend.
At the moment I'm not in the position to buy really, need to sort other things like bank account, apartment, parking & car allowance first. Knowing this place, by the time that's done it will be well into 2010MY!
I wasn't really looking for a new one, but like you said before good used ones are hard to find, the dealer said he didn't have any in - they don't seem to do the whole 'approved used' type second hand thing here.

Hi Matt - yeah, you'll easily do the same deal...maybe even better than me...I didn't really push as I was just keen to get the deal done and be out of there! I'm kind of relieved in a way...nothing worse than finding you could have saved another 10,000dhs by waiting two weeks!! Having said that, as you're so close to the new shape one, and you've got stuff to achieve first, then I'd go for that. The guy at Al Tayer told me 4th Quarter, but I suspect it'll be August!I reckon with a bit of pushing they would do a similar deal to yours.

Re the GT500s, I drew the same conclusion. While it's a hell of a car, it's also double the price. Too rich for me...I'm supposed to be saving!!
