I have seen little evidence of the slavering that occurred in 2004 when the new Mustang was launched and when people literally fell over themselves to go out and satiate their lust.
It's interesting how this is panning out especially since you're very much in a small minority on Mustang forums. You know, people who actually buy one).
I'll continue to feel let down.
Meh! I reckon most of it is just sour grapes......current S197 owners just don't want to admit they're not driving the latest, greatest Mustang, where as I'm more than happy with my "classic", yet still happy to acknowledge a superior car

No, really, it's ugly.Edited by Twin Turbo on Thursday 5th February 15:42
As with any "superior" car, the earlier car soon leapfrogs it when modified even slightly. I'm not one for sour grapes and would have been the first to applaud Ford if they'd got it right. You know my view is that they've been influenced by BMW and Japanese cars - to the detriment of the styling. I'll never forgive that cheap GT grille.
With regards sales would it not just be that the first one was so radical a vehicle to carry the name for years that the newer one is not such a leap to make it worthwhile the trade up.
I think its just that bit 'more' than the old look. If I had a current one though which is itself a good motor I'm not sure I'd update for such changes.
To clarify spent just under 4 weeks in one on route 66 and if we didn't have the monaro would buy a mustang.

Well I own a 2007 GT vert (first reg in June 08 but now on private plates) and I will be buying the new one, apart from the rear its better in all respects IMHO. Enquiries are already out but I will be keeping mine for a little longer in the hope the exchange rate moves the right way! Maybe a red one this time as they no longer do windviel blue.
Heres the present one...

The Camaro beats this for me. Whilst the interior is undoubtedly better, the outside has been cheapened with unpainted sills and plastic addenda and the other day i found a pic of someone fitting the black plastic grille to the new GT and it looks astonishingly cheap compared to the 2005-9. So it's swings and roundabouts. Interestingly, on one of the blogs, they compare the two interiors and preferred the Camaros so I'm guessing the interior may not stand close scrutiny. It's certainly less distinctive.
Sure, it has a lot of great features like a reversing camera and sat-nav and a built-in juke-box and even this almost McLaren-like feature:
Vehicle Health Report (VHR): SYNC gathers relevant information from the major vehicle control modules and packages diagnostic data into a usable format in a matter of minutes. That data packet is sent to Ford via an 800-number automatically dialed using the customer’s paired and operable mobile phone.
However, SYNC also dials 911 if the airbags deploy which might annoy them if you're in the middle of Manchester. Most of the new features are US specific and will have to be unspecified for UK cars and the standard sequential indicators will have to be somehow deactivated.
