The new Mustang
Discussion
Quality! a whole section devoted to Mustangs. Didnt know this was here.
anyway, I'll get to the point...
Top Gear magazine last edition, there was a section on new cars for 2004. Included was the new Mustang we have heard of before... supercharged 4.6L V8, gorgeous looks, reasonable weight, hopefully good handling, and the best bit... price only £24,000!!!
I rang Ford Uk to see if it was for real, but no surprise, they knew nothing.
Anyone enlighten me? Is it just Top Gear BS?

The car is correct but i dont think that price is, a Mach 1 is £28,000 and that's not got a blower on it. Typin error i think, if you want more info check out www.americancarimports.co.uk thay will confirm the price and spec.

Picked up a copy of CAR today and they have them in there too. In my line of work i can get very blase about exotica and raritys but as soon as i saw the pics i was in Petrolhead heaven. I can see another addition to my collection coming!!!!
They'll never bring the current Fox platform Muzzie here unless it's by way of personal import as it's lhd only. The Mach 1 is 28k from one of the importers and the conservatively rated 390bhp Mustang Cobra is 33k.
The Cobra is phenomenally fast and the Mach 1 is almost as fast as a Camaro but has some nice retro touches like no room in the back, cheap vinyl dash etc.
The gorgeous new 2005 Mustang is coming and it will probably be £24000....in the States. There may be more of a chance of rhd as the platform is that of the Lincoln LS/S-Type Jag. However, I doubt it will ever come to the UK as the Mustang is an "American Thang" and has as much relevance as the thunderbird to most British drivers. The retro cues are all to do with a past American icon and British drivers would condemn it accordingly withjout ever driving it.
I'm afraid the UK are still bleating on about "a new Capri" (Visos...yuk!)for a reason which completely eludes me when this new Mustang is so drop dead gorgeous. My point is that it doesn't matter how stunning the Mustang is - placing it on UK roads as a mainstream car is just...well, wrong. Might as well put Concorde in the Red Arrows and expect it to blend in.

I'd love to see the new Mustang over here in RHD. As a Capri fan of old, I too fail to see Ford of Britain ever being able to replace it. (the Visos misses by a mile, as did the Probe and the Cougar).
Vauxhall are finally doing the decent thing and bringing the Monaro over here (albeit in tiny numbers), so come on Ford YOU KNOW IT MAKES SENSE.
Oh, and GM should also give us the new C6 Corvette in RHD too.

Really ? I've heard it called that by a few people in the UK, but if you mention Fox 4 to US suppliers they just look and ask if you mean SN95.
Nice car BTW
Edited to add: Sold my 'stang, on the lookout for a 5l (Fox 87-93) 'donor' - so if anyone knows one...
