Hi

I've read in "Mustangs and Fast Fords" magazine that the largest rear tire you can fit to an S197 mustang (with unmodified arches) is 315-30-18. Does anyone know whether this would also fit the front? What wheel size would be required to hold a 315 tire, 11.5"? Is anyone on here running tires over 300 width and did you experience any issues with rubbing on the arches with lowering the car 30mm?

Thanks for any help.

A 315 is definately not going to turn on the front. Normal size is a 255 with 275 available on the saleens, ect. I would say 275 would be the widest on the front but a 315/30x18 seems a little small for the back anyways.

The maximum width will be dicated by the offset of the wheels used which can vary. I have 275/35s on 20's all round on mine but will probably drop to a 255 on aesthetic grounds next time and a 275 might be a bit of overkill. I will also increase the rears to 285 or 295 as I have 10.5" rims and the 275s are a little stretched to cover them.

In the US they fit 305s but TBH, they look total sh*t, like someone's kicked the car up the arze with a 4x4. Too much width will only increase the risk of aquaplaning as the weight is spread.

Why would you want that much rubber anyway?
