2010 Mustang Revealed
Discussion
More on the Ford Mustang 2010 launch site. http://www.fordvehicles.com/the2010mustang/
looks great but a V8 with "only" 320 HP thats as much as the Camaro's V6!! oops..
Unless they did something very special to the suspention I'm afraid that the Stang will come dead last in all comparison test's (Camaro, Challenger, Mustang).
Outside and inside looks all good however don't feel the need right away to sell my 05!

The Mustang does have a 400-500 lbs weight advantage over the new Camaro and even more compared to the Challenger but it would have been nice to have a bit more in the power dept.looks great but a V8 with "only" 320 HP thats as much as the Camaro's V6!! oops..

The 2005 Mustang, despite being retro-influenced, was right from the start and accordingly, a design classic in it's own right. Since then, the Camaro has come along and whilst drawing retro touches from the 1969 Camaro nevertheless came up with something that looked modern.
I understand that Ford no doubt felt they had nowhere to go with the 2005 design as retro is hard to modernise without destroying the whole point. Adding the BMW-esque shoulder was perhaps predictable and it may be that safety legislation has dictated the partially successful extension of the nose (but why the black uprights?) and softer edges and the wholly unsuccessful Japanesque rear end with the 370Z/991-esque rounding of the back panel which, IMHO, just doesn't work.
It's not a disaster but i don't think it moves the design forward and would have preferred to have seen the money spent on tweaking the old design and putting more power in the trouser department. The interior is a huge improvement in quality but it has aslo destyled the interior to a large degree - it could now be far more "any car" whereas the old one was pure Mustang. That said, having seen some of the Camaro interior pics, it has that side of it sown up.
I believe Ford have tried to play safe here. The Mustang has traditionally not gone out on a limb and has always been styled so as not to alienate it's massive fan base - nothing to drool over but nothing to hate either. It kept sales of Mustangs far higher than the more radical Camaro/Firebird designs. Sadly, I think that means that whilst it will doubtless continue to sell, it's lost a little of it's icon styling.
Given the choice between this and the new Camaro, I think the Camaro looks better and has better engines but a far worse interior - however, it's the Camaro that would be sitting on my drive.
this is an interim restyle before an all-new Mustang (assuming it continues to sell) around 2014. There may be a new 5.0 before then but that car will spawn IRS and possibly even a twin turbo option. I just hope they push the design envelope a bit more.

Nah! Nothing wrong with this redesign. Just needs the right wheels, the right colour, the right contrasting stripes, the right lowering and the right (400 hp) engine.
Then it will easily look as good, if not better than the Camaro and Challenger...
Witness my latest 'chop in black...
Cheers

You're right. I now like the wheels. Then it will easily look as good, if not better than the Camaro and Challenger...
