Hertz Shelby Mustang GT350H has anyone hired this?
Discussion
Hi
I'm visiting Las Vegas in a few weeks and was thinking about hiring a Mustang. Hertz rent out a Mustang in their "Fun Section" (https://www.hertz.com/rentacar/reservation/gaq/index.jsp?targetPage=whatView.jsp) but there is no information on whether this is the V8 version or smaller V6. Does anyone know? I have also heard they do a special Shelby Mustang GT350H. Is this much more powerful? Unfortunately I cannot find this car anywhere on the Hertz website and there is no contact email for Hertz to find out more information, only a long distance American phone number, so I may have to do all the enquiries on the day when I'm there. I have heard conflicting stories that there are some restrictions imposed on this Shelby GT350 car, such as limited miles. Can anyone confirm this?
One car I would love to try out when I'm out there is the slightly older but much more powerful 2003/2004 SVT Cobra Mustang but due to it being slightly older I'm assuming this would not be available.
Thanks for any help and info.
Cheers
Matt

Looking at the photos on the hertz site that is a v6 mustang that they hire out, but to be honest they are still very capable cars
the GT350H is a special edition created only for hertz, its a shelby and apparently are bloody expensive to rent and insure its got more horses than a standard GT (about 325) and is only available in black with gold stripes. It has uprated suspension and air intake. Apparently if you take the traction control off they are absolute beasts hehe I would say if you can afford one then go for it as they were limited production and Hertz are apparently only keeping them till they have about 15-20K on them then selling them on.

The standard Hertz convertible Mustang is the 210bhp v6. Hertz did (not sure if they still do) rent out the V8 (325bhp) Shelby GT/H but only from selected rental locations, althought Vegas was one.
The standard v6 will still be fun for cruising the Vegas strip.

Hertz Las Vegas had definitely kept one GTH soft top on the fleet as I very nearly rented one again last week. If you get a chance do it. The GTH is a proper V8, good sound, handles nicely and loads of fun, even if it is an auto. Not much room for luggage in the boot though.
They won't be around much longer, so give it a try.

I hired the Coupe 2 yrs back and then hired the convertible in San Francisco a month back. The car itself was the usual hoot to drive, and although the driving experience of the convertible was worse than the coupe (major scuttle shake), the overall experience was better (roof off, more noise/good weather!). The car I had had covered 26k miles which surprised me as this was quite some way over other examples in the rental fleet.
By searching carefully on the internet, and using publically available hertz discount codes (which then defaulted the booking to USD), I managed to get the beastie for c.$340 for 3 days, and then insurance on top of app $130. I had to pay an extra mileage charge as well given that the 75 mile/day is so tight. If booking from the UK Hertz website, the rental rates were substantially more and quoted in GBP - something like £280 not incl insurances.

I hired the GT-H last year and I have to say it was was great fun once you disabled the traction control which Hertz had tried have stuck on. Yes it had the V8 which if I remember rightly was good for 325hp. This made for a 0 - 60 in the mid 5's with a great sound track to boot. I managed to top it out at 140mph coming back from a club in St Petersburg late at night as I headed back to Tampa across the 14 mile long causeway.
They only produced 500 of the coupes and I think the same amount of convertables in the second year. They were still available earlier this year when I was back in Florida on business but I am not sure if they have now been taken off the fleet. They were always going to sell them in the end. I have attached a couple of pics of the one I had, as I said it was a cool car for a rental. Thankfully my company paid for it as it was not cheap:

I got married in the convertible version then drove it to the Grand Canyon. Auto only and when I last looked they were still available. I hired it for the wedding day then haggled with them for extra days at a considerable discount.
Managed a GPS confirmed 138mph on Route 66 and a burn out on the way out of the drive-thru wedding chapel.

Well worth it if you can stretch to the extra cash. Not much boot space and not really that quick with the auto box strangling it but they make an excellent noise.

A friend of mine just hired a Hertz Shelby convertible in Florida. Funny he said it "wasn't all that fast". Could it have been a 6-pot???
He did say it received a lot of attention though!
