Hi everyone I have a question. I'm looking for a cold air intake for my 05 Mustang GT.
I was reading on the US sites that ppl liked the Bamachips tunes the best.
They make tunes with the highest octane of only 93.
I live in the Netherlands and our highest octane at the pump (same as UK I'm sure) would be a 98 octane.
I was thinking of buying a C&L "True flow racer" with either a SCT or a Diablo Predator from Bamachips.
But maybe someone has a better suggestion?
Thx....

I'm thinking along similar lines but my first choice would be the kit offerred by Roush or Ford Racing. When I see products offerred by these 2 companies (or are they really the same company......) I imagine that they work.

If Roush's suspension kit is anything to go by (it has totally trabsformed my car, to the extent that I believe it should be offerred as standard on all Mustangs, ten everyone would go on about what a great car it is)I'd say their products are real quality items.

There's plenty of choice out there for a cold air intake. Have a look at some of the magazine tests for results.

Bamachips have a very good reputation and will often send you a choice of tune.

Of the tests above, the JLT seems to have the edge although they all produce roughly the same sort of increase.

US use PON to quantify their octane at the pump so 93 is equivalent to 97 (RON) in Europe and most companies offer that. Highest we have here is Tesco 99 and I think Shell V-Power is that too but Total do 97.

Bear in mind that if you're going to fit a supercharger at some point in the future, this is wasted money and on a bang for your buck basis, a supercharger is the way to go.

Getting my Saleen Brenspeed Stage 2 done on Tuesday at Brenspeed. 485bhp. I've had to wait 8 weeks since booking it.

It's like being 6yo and waiting for Christmas. Absolute torture waiting. driving

Malc what suspension upgrades did you buy from Roush if I may ask?

I think Roush does not do much with cold air intakes and the Ford ones dont seem to increase horse power as much.
So when it comes to cold air intakes I think you are better of going with one of the aftermarket brand's.( I like the cl racer quite a bit)

Oh thx LuS1fer..I didn't know that there where diff. systems to look at the octane that helps.
So I can get a tune for 93 and that being similar to a 97 octane over in Europe.

Yep..... the super charge issue.... they way I look at it is I'll fist upgrade to a cold air see what I feel about it if it's not enough of an upgrade I'll just sell the thing (should be easy as it is such an easy upgrade).

Does and body know what the super charger does to fuel consumption?

It depends on the type of supercharger: 3 basic types are
(1) centrifugal (Vortech, Procharger, Paxton)which is a bit like a turbo but mechanically driven. This produces similar sort of power to stock low down and it builds like a turbo and goes mental. I've got one and I can get 24 Euro-mpg (the readout is in smaller US mpg)driven reasonably and up to 30 on a run. It's very little different and possibly better than I was getting stock. Claimed to be most efficient.
(2) Rootes type (Roushcharger, Ford) - these bolt on top of the engine and tend to cost more as they are bolt-on model-specific (the centrifugal is pretty much a universal application). They channel air along a screw into the intake and tend to produce a bit more torque lower down.
(3) Twin screw - (Kenne Belle, Whipple)which not only pull air along the screws but compress for more power and are generally the most expensive and most powerful and have loads of torque low down which MAY possibly cause you to drive like a hooligan and MAY adversely affect economy.wink

LuS1fer...I was looking at you car in cardomain very very niz upgrade's.
I have one sugestion up grade you steering wheel to the one from the Shelby gt500.
I have done that as my first (and as of now my only) upgrade and I love it.
These are leader wraped with red stitching just feels 100 times better than the plastic thin standard ones.
Got mine here: http://www.stangsuspension.com/store/comersus_view...

I can certainly see the attraction but since the Premium steering wheel (which on balance I actually prefer) is leather anyway, I can think of many better ways of spending nearly $500 once you add shipping and duty! Still, it's different and that's what Mustangs are all about. smile

Steve I installed their "suspension kit" (that's all they call it in their catalogue!) bought directly from Roush for about £820 inc VAT. I'm usually a sceptic but this totally totally totally transforms the car into a brilliant handler. I keep trying to prove myself, showing off in front of other motorists by going round corners and roundabouts at speeds "faster than they would imagine" which is a bit silly as generally I'm a safe driver. I may have to get over this "showing off the handling" thing before I get caught out....

It must be this item : http://store.roushperformance.com/detail.aspx?ID=4...

Malc when you say I ordered direct from Roush do you mean Roush US and have them ship it to UK or do you guy's order stuff from Roush in UK?

I have just started with these upgrades but transport seems to be the big problem....

Thx everyone for all the responses......Steve.

Steve, that's the one. Roush have an outlet in the UK, in Hutton, near Brentwood, Essex. I picked up the items as they are only about 20 miles from me.

See:www.roush.co.uk I was told they have most Mustang items in stock or at the very latest, one month away as they have monthly shipments coming from the US.

You can't really just turn up there as they don't have a shop as such but you can call or email asking for Dave Jones. Then let them know when to expect you and you can pick up and pay by credit card right there.

Their prices are so close to the US price I really can't see how anyone can bring Roush parts over for less, e.g. that kit is $1485 or about £820...

You're right, Malc, Roush UK prices are extremely good in the UK. The shipping costs on suspension bits is extortionate, usually more than the item itself.

Allright great info....on Roush being here in Europe.

Now all I have to do is get them to ship stuff over to the Netherlands for me, but that should not be to expensive.
