I'm going to be looking for wheels for my 2005 GT.

Shelby Razors are the preferred choice, probably in gunmetal to match my grey/silver stripe on a black car.

What are owners' thoughts and experiences regarding sizes: i.e. would anyone recommend a smaller wheel or tyre width for the fronts compared to the rears?

Reason I say that is that C4 Corvettes from 93 on have a narrower front tyre width (255) versus a rear width of 285 which is to improve straight line stability and I can vouch for that as compared to the earlier C4s with 275 tyres all round.

Plus what profile tyre or make would anyone recommend?

I'll most likely buy from North Hants Tyres so I'd imagine they would have a recommendation?

Cheers, Malc

I certainly recommend Northants......speak to James, he was very helpful when I bought my Shelby Razors.

I like the staggered look (wider rears than fronts) although I believe the Razors only come in 20x9 all around.....and that's what I got.

The Razors are available with various offsets (40 or 24mm). I went for the 24mm as it pushes the wheels right out to the edge of the arches.

Malc,

It totally depends on the style you are looking for. The Razors or the Torq Thrust M's go very well with the Mustangs, but please don't go chrome on a mustang it just doesn't look right. At the minute I could do a set of Torq Thrust M's in anthracite in a 20x8.5 on the front and a 20x10 on the back giving in that really deep dish on the back with a 255/35x20 Falken 452 and a 285/30x20 Falken 452 on the rear for 1350+VAT, or 995+VAT for 20x8.5 all round with a 255/35x20 Aurora K103. Again i can do the same price of 995+VAT for the Anthracite or Silver Shelby Razors which i have about 4-5 sets of each colour coming in in a few weeks and all these wheels include chrome wheel nuts, chrome locking nuts, chrome valves, balancing and mounting. For some reason the Razors have been flying off the shelves??? Must be the price. I also have a set of black Torq Thrust M's in stock. I can also get Boyds, Foose, Jesse James, more or less any wheel if you had a different style you wanted to go for. Let me know.

One thing you need to consider before wheels is whether you're going to upgrade the brakes at any stage as a lot of deep dish wheels won't accommodate the bigger calipers. I fell into this trap in 2005 and will forever have to live with the stock stoppers which work fine on single applications but tend to fade. that siad, I have Powerslot rotors and Hawk pads and braided hoses in the attic when these pads wear out.

TIS - Chrome looks great on Mustangs ya dang heathen, just not in Gothic shield designs! rofl Problematic in British weather though so stick with painted rims. I must say the Foose wheels don't look as good as I imagined they would and still prefer the Razors. That siad, they are now getting quite common if you want something different.

Sorry i didnt mean your ones, just a regular 5 or 6 spoke looks fine its when you have crazy ones like in one of the topics in this forum. But hey everyone is different, if we were all the same we'd all have the same car, wheels, tyres everything. I have enough trouble just keeping the chrome lip clean on my wheels so I would hate to think about having a whole wheel to keep clean all the time, but we have loads of guys come in who want them on their dodges and fords so im not complaining.smilesmilesmile

Malc, like your Vette I run 285's on the back, and 255's on the front (9.5 & 8.5 rim widths). Ideal set up IMHO as the rears are wide enough to get the power down, and the fronts don't tramline or bounce about. I run 18's though so it's bound to be more harsh with 20's.

Yeah, I will see if I can run a slightly narrower front tyre, even if I have to have same size rims. I haven't seen the Foose wheels in the metal yet though they're just a bit too much like ethe stock bullits to me.

I'm pretty sure it's gonna be Razors!!!

Mine aren't harsh at all, in fact the ride is something that I'm pretty impressed with and the tramlining is fairly minimal even with 275/30s all round on 9 front and 10.5 out back. Then again, we have pretty reasonable roads round here. Much depends on the weight of the wheels though. The Welds I use are not very heavy at all and from memory weigh an extra 10lbs a corner, most of which is attributable to wider wheels and far heavier tyres. In fact I'd guess (from lifting the bare wheels and thinking "Blimey, they're light") the wheels don't add much weight at all and the tyres are probably bigger culprits.....
