Just mentioned this on the TVR site but thought it would be of interest here.
I am in California at the moment driving a Pontiac Grang Prix and was hit from behind by a Mustang. eek

What has amazed me is that neither car suffered any damage. The plastic bumpers handled the hit with only a little scuffed paint work to show. thumbup
It was hard to say how fast the nice young lady was going when she hit me but it felt hard enough and my neck is in agreement.

Precisely. So when Clarkson starts pushing in the arse end of a Corvette and turning his nose up, he'd do well to remember that American cars are designed to last forever.

you have to remember that plastic bumpers are designed to 'spring' back it is the brackets behind holding them in place that snap off/bend/buckle etc, remove the bumper and all will possibly not look so rosy
