I must start by apologizing now for being a stupid newbie asking daft questions.

Yes thats right I am going to get a mustang on the cheap as I am in the Army I get tax free cars however I own an old imported Pajero as I have 4 kids!

After lots of searching I found a US Army site that would also cater for me me like so many others have mortgage kids ect so I am thinking of going for the 4L Premium version with sports package in black with black leather, yes I know its bottom of the range but I should really get rid of the Pajero (as it has fuel pump seal problems) and get a new Tax free Galaxy at £13,000.
I am set to pay give or take £300 £11,000!!!! IN TOTAL. Guy's I work with are getting Focuses for that! Plus the wife doesn't drive and I can't really justify 2 cars.

Quick question where can I get UK lights for it and how much £££ are they.

Welcome!

Well, if you can get a v6 for £11k, surely you could get a v8 for a few grand more? Only (half) teasing. wink

Anyway, you'll get all the advice you need at these two websites:

www.s197.co.uk (this is specific to the '05 + Mustang)
www.moggb.net/forums (owners club)

The "euro lights" can be purchased from e-bay, but be VERY careful fitting them as the SJB (Smart Junction Box) is easily damaged when the wiring gets messed with.

Black's the best colour, by the way cool

Although I would also be a little scared on the auto bahns here. My car history is not so good so this would be a massive step. although I did start with a New Escort Gti I went onto a 1.8 vectra 1.9tdi Passat dare I say it a Volvo v40. Anyway I could sell it at the end of the year and get more than I paid for it and upscale.

As a US Serviceman you don't pay the duties that a normal civilian would have to pay before registering it. So if you sold it to a civilian, you or the buyer would probably have to pay import duty (10% in the UK, not sure about Germany) and VAT on top(17.5% in the UK)so the price would have to be adjusted accordingly. As TT says, the conversion to Euro-lights isn't straightforward and you have to make sure it's done by someone who does these regularly to avoid burning out the junction box.

The V6 isn't a bad car by any means and in fact owes it's roots to the German Ford V6 but it has smaller brakes than the GT and no rear sway bar. That said, I'm sure the V6 is possibly the better choice for Germany as I think their taxation system penalises V8s quite heavily whereas in the UK everyone wants a V8 so they're worth far more.

Everything should be a go now I've found a tax free car sales man in Belsen of all places that will do me one for around £12,800.
The only thing I do resent slightly is that I am paying £2400 for conversion ie like a SVA, so it would be TUV ready which is MOT. The best news is the lights are not a issue now!! So I can get one.

Good for you. Probably still works out cheaper than an average Golf though does it?
