Hi,

I am keeping my eye on all the discussions here and still hoping to acquire my mustang this year... as well as hoping the petrol price goes down! Lol - right!

I was wondering if anyone has any views on the choice of a coupe over convertible or visa-versa. I notice the place in Milton Keynes adds £3k to the price for a Roush convertible. I am hoping for a Roush model myself, but am thinking the rear passengers (kids) are not going to see much with the 1/4 window louvers (I know they are optional but look good on the coupe). Does the convertible have any adverse handling over the coupe in Roush form that anyone knows about?

Thanks in advance...

Graham

Given you're a bloke, a coupe every time smile

The convertibles are good looking, but a bit efeminate to my eye. Other issues with 'verts are risk of hood slashing (expensive and a pain to replace) and our crap weather!

And, if you go for a Roush stage 2 or upwards, with the uprated suspension, I would hazard a guess that you may get more in the way of scuttle shake

If I lived in California, I'd likely go for a convertible. But we don't so I won't. hehe

However, I do like the look of the rag top. Get yourself over to:

In particular, one of our members (Eddie) has just had his convertible's suspension & exhaust upgraded by Roush this very day.

This one's nice. Supercharged too. Lovely rims.

Hi,

Thanks for the comments, all valid & things I had not considered especially damage to the roof. I’ll take a look at s197 too.

I wasn't thinking of a Screaming Yellow convertible more a black one, silver shelby stripes and 20" rims, which I don’t think will be too effeminate Stig ;-)

It would be a fair weather car only as alas I do far too many miles a year for work to contemplate it as an everyday car hence the convertible option. It doesn't sound like anyone has actually found it wasn’t really used much over here either because of detriment to handling on Roush 2 & 3 or the weather as eluded too by Mr Turbo.

I like the look of the linked one on eBay, Twin Turbo, not sure I am a red leather man though to be honest more a darker charcoal colour I think. It’s great to have the supercharger but without the mention of upgraded brakes and suspension I think I’d kill myself in it! He-he

I see the additional 3k for a convertible would pay for the Roush break upgrade on a Roush Stage 2 before the supercharger was added later - decisions, decisions!

Cheers,
Graham

From a re sale point of view I would go coupe every day of the week. The convertible costs £3,000 more but when you sell it you will find convertibles go for roughly the same money on the retail market as coupes because they are not as sort after. We do approx 10 coupes for every 1 convertible !

Coupe every time. Torsional rigidity over girly looks.

yes

I do like the California Special add-ons, and those wheels are superb.

And, of course, it's a lovely colour biggrin

I too am a convertible guy (not my everyday car) and bought one just like that a few months ago from Bill Shepherd Mustangs, (great guys BTW and I believe are in the process of becoming official Shelby Dealers). I am not effeminate in the least and but more your rugby player with a few too many MacDonalds on board hehe

I am thinking of having the Vortec S/c fitted and adore the wheels on that Ebay car!

I will post a photo when I have a bit of time, but the colour combination (with black interior leather) looks bloody good with the silver stripes, the white was too bright.

Now anyone need a quick hair cut and blow dry... whistle

Another great Mustang supplier is Atlantic Sportscars (Luton).

The black convertible I posted was from an American website.
