Posted in General Gassing, but wondering if this is specific to my Mustang now.

Is anyone having real difficulties filling their 05+ Mustang at the moment?

takes forever to fill up as the pump keeps clicking off, which results in a frustrated Tinman firing the fuel slowly down the pipe from a distance. (eg nozzle is outside the fuel filler neck). took me about 15 minutes to put a full tank in yesterday in one of the better petrol stations.

i can relate to that , dont think its just a Mustang issue tho , i have similar trouble with the Viper sometimes and dont recall the Mustang giving me too much grief on that front!

Yes - it's a complete pain in the ar$e and a well documented 'issue' with S197s. I've tried the usual 'tricks', rotating the nozzle etc. but best advice given was to find a Tesco's pump (Super unleaded of course) that takes credit card payment. They tend to be less sensitive on the shut-off.

There's 16 pumps at my local Tesco's, I have to wait for 'the one' that works every time I fill up. It gives me a full tank, no problems. The others, it's whirrrrr...click.. whirrrr...click - takes about half a day to fill up!

I carry a funnel with me for longer trips using 'unknown' stations.

Blimey , i dont remember it being that bad! but what a pain in the arse that is when it happens!

to be honest would never have tried a Tesco pump as only ever filled up with V - Power or BP102 but sounds like your weekly shop should be worked around the car running short on gas! biggrin

I've had problems too. It's infuriating!

The best pumps I have found are BP's. They work very well, and seldom 'click'.

BP is one that i've found to be particulary bad to be honest. In the end i just gave up in Europe. If i was in a hurry i'd splash and dash and try a pump an hour down the road.

I had this problem with my local Tesco pumps but I have now changed to our local Shell garage and can fill up without any issues!

This is a problem with all late model Mustangs, it just depends how lucky you are regarding the flow rate of your local garages!

On adifferent note, just returned from Holland where I got great fuel consumption, about 30MPG (UK) on a 500 miles journey, admittedly I tried to stick to 70mph (failed a couple of times) but work was paying my fuel bill so no worries there!

Does it make a difference if you don't squeeze the pump "trigger" all the way in? I guess that would reduce the fuel flow rate?

Guess I'll find out next weekend biggrin

drove through Germany at a fairly steady rate on Wednesday and got 28mpg. tended to stick around 85. couldn't believe it when we loaded on the ferry and the fuel computer was giving me 360 for the tank (trip+left).

I was the same with my fuel, I filled up just outside Amsterdam and still had over a quarter of a tank when I reached the tunnel (about 240 miles)

I am sure my car is running a bit rich since I added a C&L CAI kit plus tune from BrenSpeed as the car seems crisper when cold.

Want to get it dialled in on a rolling road soon as I think the car is capable of giving me more power & MPG than I am getting now :-)

Tesco Super- recent tests showed it's better than either of those (and Optimax)

yip got the same problem myself once the pump clicks off thats you there for the duration.
it is ok saying find a pump that works but that is not very practical on long journeys.
i travelled from edinburgh to luton to the bbq at james gammell this year and thought it was going to take for ever with fuel stops and the dreaded click click.
so what i have found works for me at most filling stations. dont put the nozzle right in turn the handle of the pump to the back of the car so it is horizontal and dont pull the trigger right back fill the tank slowly.hay presto job done.

The only way I can get a full fuel up is on BP V-power. Tesco's won't let me get a full tank.

Arrived @ the Pod Wednesday evening with fuel computer saying 95 miles untill refill, ran 7 rounds of qualifying on Thursday (yes 7, well done SPRC track crew)and the computer read 36 miles to refill!!!
So 1/4 mile run and return to pitts x 7 plus a bit of pottering about on site = about 59 miles worth of fuel used up in 4 miles !!
Good job we got knocked out early eh banghead or might have had to push it home.

we found the older style pumps work well and if she is quite low on fuel, seems to take the fuel better, james at atlantic swears by parking on the opposite side and pulling the fuel pipe over to the tank, tesco's always click off before we are full though

got the opposite problem with my 96, the pump rarely clicks off, so unless you listen for the gurgle as it nears full, it spits fuel all over the bumper nad your feet....

I'd swap my problem for your problem (as long as you're not really spilling fuel on your nads...)

Try it pre-paying with your credit card, it's rarely a problem then.
