Anyone have any experience of using BMS in Weston (Nr Bristol) for their SVA mods and test. They claim to be the largest such organisation in the UK. (www.bmsesva.co.uk)
They have the advantage of being near, and able to also do the SVA test, being a VOSA approved test centre.
My interest is in using them possibly for a C6 corvette.

I was going to use them to SVA my Mustang,it was when they asked for photo's of the rear, the dash and front of the car (the car was mid atlantic at time)I became a little wary thinking they had either never worked on a Mustang before or had only done a couple, knowing the complexity of the wiring in the new Mustang i opted for another company who specialise in 'SVA2U'

do it yourself !! its not that complicated and you will save a good few quid! that does assume you have at least a basic technical knowledge and know a little about car electrics.
i know im a dealer , but its only low volume so a few cars a year, i prepare them all myself at home and ive never had a fail yet! (touching wood here for the next one going in shortly rolleyes )
yuo wont need the ESVA test as the car will presumably be LHD , as its a new model you are referring to , it will tick most boxes based on the US standards it will have already passed, so you wont have too much to do , then its just the £158.00 test fee biggrin
give me a shout on my mobile (07889 813540) if you wanna chat briefly on it , ill be honest and say ive not done a C6 yet but had no problems with the Jap stuff, Mustangs , Vipers and RAMs iv put through over the years

cheers

The Corvette SVA isn't hard and most people could do it. The Mustang HAS to be done by a specialist as it has a very sensititive wiring system which can lead to expensive failure, as many have found.

I know that C5 corvettes are relatively straight foreward especially given both your articles and availability of euro lights from Ecklers etc., and have done a Z06 myself.
My perceived problem relating to a current C6 relates to the absence of such light fittings, although they must obviously be available from GM for the european market, and I assume that the "daylight running" lights can be modified as a C5
The two inner fogs are available from Ecklers, but I cant as yet source the outer lights with the amber lower lens suitable for a C6, ah well,I may have to buy from the steelers

We have done about 110 mustangs through the SVA and have three year old cars on the road with no problems. We take all necessary steps to prevent damage to the smart junction box. My in house mechanic does a factory looking job. For your knowlege neither the euro lights or the angel eyes are plug and play and again need extra protection built in to prevent damage to the smart juction box. Our experience with many of the companies close to the docks or on the docks doing SVA work is they are interested in geting the car through the test and do not care about how tidy the work is or if it will last the test of time. There are only about 5 companies doing the work correctly in the u.k to my knowledge and the rest we have to strip out their work and re wire everything before we sell on. If I can be of help give me a call.

well i had my 05 gt done at atlantic sports cars and what a superb job very tidy neat and factory looking.i had the front angel eyes and the back euro lights fitted.
there had been indicators fitted in the trunk to reduce the impedance on the original sva but in time this could have caused damage to the smart juntion box as they had started to melt.
all this was sorted by dave at atlantic.all this work was done nearly a year ago now with no problems.biggrin
