Good MPG from my Supercharged Stang!!
Discussion
Hi there
Well drove to Donnington Race Track/Castle today so as I was getting on the A50 (Stoke end) I reset my MPG counter. After travelling to Donnington, having some mixed driving whilst there and then heading back I was averaging the following after the journey there and back:-
Now remember that is US gallons. The easy way for converting US gallon to UK is to times that figure by 1.2 which equals 31.68MPG.
Thats mean when maintaining 60-70mph on the motorway/dual carriage way or using cruise control the car is seeing over 30MPG. Now thats not bad for what is a low cost engine and is of a basic design. Consider the fact its supercharged and outputting both 500+ BHP and Lb-Ft of torque I'd say thats rather impressive.
I was not at Donnington for a track day but agreed to meet a chap travelling from Oxford who was coming to view my car. Unfortunately the weather was terrible so I was unable to demonstrate the true power to him and as he has owned 4 previous Porsches including turbo and GT3 I really wanted to show him what it could do. He was very impressed with the brakes, in fact he could not get over how good and smooth they were, he liked the quick steering and loved the endless waves of torque. He is looking at a Shelby GT500 tomorrow and a Roush, he seemed quite interested so is going to get back to me tomorrow and was very interested in what I'd accept. He is the first guy to view the car so shall see if he makes me an offer.
So I headed back home, again keeping to 60ish as it was raining and was very wet and as such the car maintained its 30+ MPG.
When I started to get back towards Stoke things were drying out so I increased my speed quite a bit and once of the dual carriage ways stopped using 5th and just went to having a bit of fun and enjoying some rapid acceleration and as such the MPG when I arrived at home had slowly dropped to this:-
Thats still 25+ MPG, which really is pretty good.
Unfortunately when its hot and dry I generally don't drive so relaxed or use the higher gears as much and as such my average MPG is normally hovering around the 14MPG mark which close to 17MPG in UK figures so still not bad considering I make full use of the power whenever I can when its dry.
Got another viewer catching the train up from London one night this week, he currently drives a BMW M3 CSL and also sounds very interested. So unfortunately in a way it looks like I might not be owning the Stang for much long and whats even worse I am still indecided on a replacement yet.
