"Cheap" power upgrades on a 99-04 GT engine?
Discussion
Hi All,
OK, so the outside of my car isn't a Mustang, but what's under the bonnet is! For anyone who doesn't know, MG Rover bought in '99-'04 4.6l 2V engines as used in the Mustang GT to stuff into the ZT 260.
Now, we've got a pretty active owners' club (168 members out of the 883 cars built) but we're still relatively in the dark as to what is available to increase the power. Does anyone with a GT have any suggestions?
At the moment, the general opinion seems to be fitting a better TB and plenum at the cheap end, but then there's not a lot until you get up to the £6k supercharger. Part of the problem is that you have to drop the engine out to get the heads off, which makes matters more costly!
Also, cold air induction kits have a bit of a space issue under the bonnet of a car originally designed with a 2.5l V6 in mind.
Any ideas warmly welcomed!

Hi Kermit, you might want to try this forum http://www.corral.net/forums/. I have no idea what kinds of space issues you would run into cos MG Rovers were never sold on this side of the pond, but the guys in this forum have done wonders with the ford modular engines!

You might be interested to know that there is one of these cars registered in the States! As I understand it, the car went over for hot climate development testing in Nevada or somewhere, and with MG Rover going through their financial death throes, it wasn't bought back. Some bright guy had the idea of registering it as a modified Mustang (because of the engine), and Illinois accepted the story and issued plates!
