A question I'm asking for a mate of mine that has a 96GT with Auto Gbox.
Fluid is at the right level, and was changed (inc. filter) only a couple of thous miles ago. In top gear on a steady throttle it feels like the box momentarily drops out of O/D, down a gear, and back up again. It's just a momentary change, almost feels as if you have lifted off the accelerator and straight back on again.
Any ideas what the problem is ? I seem to recall there was some sort of additive for the oil you could use to help smooth out the Gbox ?

Or maybe it's not the box ? A fuel or ignition problem ?

Hi

read Looking at my Mustang 94-97 Haynes manual, I think there are some diagnostic codes that relate to auto transmission problems. If you can get a hold of an ODB-II code reader you might get some clue from that.

Hope this helps a bit

That's worth a try. Thanks for the suggestion.

Not sure if that's good news or not frown

The Haynes manual doesn't have a whole lot but if it'd help I could scan in the auto g'box chapter and mail it to you

Has it only had this problem since the oil was changed, if so was the right oil used ? SN95's are very fussy about auto oil, has to be Mercon ATF (Ford) or Dexron 3 (GM)spec or problems similar to those described arise

Fluid changed - feels much better. smilethumbup

He had left it to a garage, so no idea what fluid was used. Though they had changed it - it was clean. This time he did it himself and used some quality tranny fluid.
