Hi there

The guy who helped me with my suspension components in the USA was back at Road Atlanta this weekend which is a road/track course in America.

His car is a standard Mustang GT, but it does have the following mods:-
Power/BHP Mods
C&L CAI with 93 tune (Predator)
Steeda UDP's
Bassani X-Pipe
Flowmaster Exhaust
Circa 340BHP (I have 535BHP)

Suspension & Brake Upgrades
Steeda Shocks & Struts (Mine are Saleen)
Steeda Ultra Lite Springs (Mine are Saleen)
Steeda Adjustable Panhard Bar & Brace (I have same)
Steeds Rear Swaybar with End Links (I have same)
Steeda Billet Aluminum Lower Control Arms (I have same)
Steeda G-Trac Brace (I have same)
Steeda Adjustable Upper Control Arm (3rd link) (I have same)
Steeda Heavy Duty Upper Strut Mounts (I have same)
Steed Strut Tower Brace (I have same)
Steeda SS Brake Lines (I have same)
Powerslot Rotors (Larger Shelby Rotors on mine)
EBC YellowStuff Brake Pads (Shelby GT500 Ferodo DS pads on mine)

From the sucess Mike has had with his car on both race tracks, road courses and fast normal road use I decided to go with the same setup for my car.

Here are some video's of Mikes 2006 Mustang GT with the above mods at the track this weekend:-

Session 2

It looks slow in the video but he is actually running out of gear in 4th and as such is hitting over 130-140mph.

He is looking to improve his power and brakes soon with the likes of a supercharger as the car is now only lacking straight line speed as can be seen when he is up against the 911 (997) Turbo. As on the straights the 911 Turbo is a lot quicker but on the corners Mike's driving skills put the guy in the Porsche to shame. Still goes to prove an American car does not fall off the road at the sign of a corner and can indeed get round them very quickly without fuss even with a live axle in the rear.
Still when he looked at the lap times he was actually lapping 2s quicker than the 911 Turbo, goes to show power is not everything and that driving skill is, also proves the Mustang has no issues with a corners, especially a sorted one.

Still to all those who instantly tarnish American cars saying they can't handle and believe live axles are something from the stone ages and something terrible. Well it does not seem to effect Mikes car, he was not overtaken once and every car out there held him up on the corners including 911 Turbo, Supra, EVO, Corvette, RX7, Noble etc. Obviously his driving skills seems pretty good but fact is that Mustang is going round those corners and is going round them damn fast without any fuss.

Before anyone says its extensively modified well its not. All those parts are simple bolt-ons, about a days work and the whole lot would cost less than £2500 so considering you can get a Mustang GT now for circa 15-18k, for less than 20k you could have a very capable track car like that but one that is also a great grand tourer and can be driven fast on the road whilst having plenty of fun too.

love the clips! gave the supra a good challenge! must have caught him off boost cos on boost he was leaving the 'stang behind but the stang to me seemed it could go a lot faster than the supra in the bends.

i'm a jap car nut at heart and currently drive a BM (hard to get insured on anything jap after a driving ban) and after the noise of my straight six in the BM i think my next move will have to be a V8 and defo considering a 'stang for sure now after that clip! V.nice!

Hi there

Well can't recommend them enough. I have exactly the same suspension setup as per Mikes in those video clips. Only difference is I have stronger brakes (Shelby GT500 Brembo brakes) and have an additional 150BHP.

I am considering selling mine, am testing driving a C6 Z51 this weekend and gonna look at a Z06 too and then book some test drives in a 911 GT3 and Turbo to see how they all compare. Then might contemplate letting the Stang go for the right offer, its not cheap though as its a Saleen model so looks stunning as well. smile
