OK, went over a bump two days ago and thats the last time i heard the stereo. Trouble is, the stereo wasn't on when i went over it, so I don't know if that was exactly the moment something happened to it. Anyway, it doesn't want to turn on now. Anyone any ideas how to get behind it and check the connections.

The immobiliser got fitted this week, so I'm not entirely convinced it was the bump that did it.

PM me your e-mail address and I'll send you a PDF of how to remove the radio.

cheers for that.

well, i took one look at them, thought "feck me" and rang up the garage down the road who serviced the car a few weeks ago. they are going to have a look at it tomorrow.

question is, if the stereo unit has died, can i get it replaced under warranty - seeing as I'm heading to the States at the weekend for a month?

It's easy, really. I did it in about 20mins to add an ipod adapter. A bit scary to start with but everything pulls off easy.

I doubt you'll get the radio replaced. You don't have a Ford warranty once the cars outside the US - they'll only honour safety recalls. Why not get a double din head unit while you're in the States to replace it?

Not a happy bunny this morning.

Went to take the car in, and found a totally flat battery. Jumped the car and the stereo is alive again.

Which means, something somewhere is draining the battery at a fair decent rate of knots. I hate these types of coincidences after the car has been worked on by a company (the immobiliser place). It may not be their fault, but i hate coincidences.

Car has been perfect for 5000+ miles, and has two electrical problems since the electrics have been fiddled with. Not happy in the slightest.

There is a known problem with the battery draining but I think it has something to do with the Sub not switching off?

Have a read of these threads:

They also link to some useful stuff on the US forums. Suspect it will be your immob though - the electrics on these cars don't like to be tinkered with.

interesting.....

seems that shaker 1000 equiped mustangs (like mine) have a problem with powering down amps if you leave the stereo on when turning the engine off.

the car is going to sepnd the next 4 weeks with a friend who will look after her. if it still has problems next weekend, I'll get a solar trickle charger for when its not being used. problem is that when i get back the car is off to Europe for three weeks so it needs to be happy by then.

Why in the states? You'll have the same 200Khz tuning problems you get with the Shaker unit, and not to mention the AM tuning problem. Just get a decent double DIN unit here.

expensive, but good!

reckon it depends on whether my local Ford dealership in Pensacola wants me driving a Dodge Charger in the States
