1 of 500 SE Mustangs to be auctioned
Discussion
Classic muscle cars are making big money at American auctions at the moment. Whilst I'm glad there's great interest in this part of the market, I'm also concerned that Shelby's & Boss's and the like will now be forever out of the reach of the "common man". And now we hear Barrett Jackson are to auction chassis number 1 of a new 500 off Special Equipement Mustang. Autoblog reckons this will be a rag top Shelby GT/H. So, when this makes $500k, you just know any street version (Shelby GT convertible?) is going to have some stupid mark up in US showrooms.
One of the things that made muscle cars a success was the fact that they were achievable dreams. With some hard work and saved cash, any one could afford a piece of working class muscle. Sure, V6s and GTs are still relatively cheap, but it seems anything over and above that (ie Shelby's) goes for stupid money, surely defeating the object.
Anyways, whether it goes for $500k or $50k, it's still a darn good looking car.

Paul - would not worry unduly about insane pricing. If I remember, the first Shelby GT-H sold for over $200k at auction, whereas ex-rentals which have appeared at dealers recently are going for $60k or so. Yes, well over the standard, but not an insane amt more than the Shelby GT500. GT-H is an impressive car indeed.

Oh, and I wish they'd make up their minds. Seems now it might be a Shelby GT500 KR (King of the Road).
