Shelby GT500 40th Anniv edition
Discussion
....as seen at SEMA.
I think I've seen those wheels before
And finally, a Shelby that's not on tiptoe and some decent fat exhaust pipes
See here for details, but it appears this'll be a limited number upgrade....just take your GT500 back to uncle Carroll and "he'll" add a Borla exhaust and Eibach suspension - sound familiar

Jeez, the rate Ford are going the Non-special editions will be rarer...
I have to agree. Milking it for all it's worth. The Shelby name, far from being exclusive will become like the Ghia badge used to be on Ford's top models and accordingly debased. I'm not a fan of convertibles and if you want to lose the hood, a sports car would be better. Never really got why anyone would enjoy freezing their nuts off in the back.
It'll come as a coupe too, but without stripes
Surely, this is what the GT500 should have been all along. Its as if they're admitting the production car isn't quite up to it (and I think we all sort of agree they didn't go quite far enough 1st time around).
Still, those photos have just confirmed that a black car with silver stripes will look awesome

And I quote "“We have designed the 40th Anniversary to honor the special legacy of the GT500 and provide a limited few a very special car,” said Boylan. “This limited edition package is only the first for the mod shop and the first upgrades from SAI for the GT500. There is much more to come."
So, more limited edition Shelby's or more full production jobbies? I reckon we can expect a normally aspirated GT350 in the not too distant future.
Edited to say:
Bollox! Didn't realise there was a Shelby GT already! (325bhp). I'd seen these pics before, but thought they were the Hertz special. Which I 'spose they are in a way.....

It's all a bit of a sick joke really. Ford are making GT500s. Dealers are setting crippling prices on them because, hey, they're "collectors cars" and already we have a "special edition" which will attract even more crippling premiums which some mug will still buy. Love the cars, hate the US motor sales industry.
Can you imagine having a (theoretical) "special edition" Focus RS Turbo with a retail price of £25k that a dealer marked up at £45k because "it's a collector's car" because that's what's happening with these cars and they're just not getting sold to anyone other than rich middle-aged 2@'s with more money than sense. In time, this is bound to give rise to a new "medallion man" image. (Runs off to polish medallion).
Still, I'm sure GM are selling plenty of Corvettes.

I'm suprised Ford let their dealers get away with it. I 'spose if they're independents, there's nothing they can do, but official Ford dealers should be better managed.
For now though, as long as people are prepared to pay stupid money, they'll continue to rip 'em off.
It'll be interesting to see if the same happens with the Challenger and Camaro.

I'm sure it will. Someone said one of the first Camaros was being advertised on e-bay, no doubt by some grabbing dealer eager to cash in. It's wrong, morally and economically. No wonder the US car industry is in trouble.
