I rate it, highly. For me, at the moment, it has only two rivals you could lay your hands on right now.
1 - Monaro VXR (now with the option of 500 ponies)
2 - Mustang GT (then add your own upgrades - Lu51fer will tell you all you need to know)
However, when the Challenger and Camaro come onstream (not likely until around 2009) that's a different matter. Neither will pack 500bhp, at least not to start with. I'm sure RS/SS and SRT/8 versions of both will appear, but not from day one.
Looks wise? The Camaro blows me away and that's the one I'd have.

Having trawled the net recently, it appears the Mustang will receive a facelift in 2009 and an all new design in 2012. Although there are now some rumours floating about that the faclift may not happen (or might even be pulled forward to '08) and the all new look pulled forward to 2010. Still, Ford haven't confirmed a thing, so this is just conjecture on the part of a couple of Mustang forums in the US.

Too much weight. Too many cons and not enough pros. See some of the other threads on this subject. I'd buy a Saleen and fit a supercharger to get a car that looks better and handles better for around £37500. A Shelby is for people who don't see much beyond the "prestige" of the cynically applied badge. You can buy a Monaro VXR500 or a Corvette C6 for less than a GT500. I'm not saying a GT500 is not going to be a whole lot of fun, it will certainly be the centre of attention and it will certainly please most people's ideas of a very fast car but the price may be far too high and that's the bar at which you have to begin your comparisons.
The Camaro looks ok at best, but it's not quite a '69 is it!
The Challenger looks awesome. I think this is the best looking muscle yet. Trouble is, I suspect it'll be too large for UK country roads. Also, by the time it's out, used 500 pony mustangs will be ten a penny. So I'll more likely consider one of those instead.

The GT500 is going to be limited to 9000 a year so may never be ten a penny because Americans will snap them up at list price when they drop to that. Even used 2005 Mustangs are keeping their price in the US. The Challenger will be a US only limited edition by the look of it and will suffer from the same money-grabbing deals from the dealers. Indeed, the first batch of Camaros will suffer the same premium price-grabbing to begin with until it comes on stream.
I'll bet we never see a RHD Camaro. In fact, I can almost guarantee it. The Corvette can be engineered for RHD and they've never bothered because sales volumes are too low. The Camaro, aside from marketing difficulties with the Chevrolet brand already debased, would tread on the toes of the Monaro and whilst the new Monaro will be a 4 door saloon, I doubt the sales of a Camaro will ever justify the investment. Mustangs are popular in American import terms but hardly an everyday sight. It would also make the car uncompetitive in terms of price as the cheap RHD Monaro wouldn't have any of those costs. The Americans have already had their fingers burnt converting the Monaro to LHD (in the form of the Pontiac GTO) and crashed and burned in the process and that was only by offsetting costs by building the car in the US.
After watching TV this morning. the green lobby is gaining steam rapidly. It doesn't matter that it's not true and it doesn't matter that China will out-pollute anty savings we make within half a year. Sooner rather than later, new "gas-guzzlers" are going to be hammered and these new muscle cars will be the first casualties. Still, it should ensure lesser depreciation for those cars already registered.
