Probably not, but Lu51fer could point you in the right direction as far as doing something similar (supercharger, brakes, suspension etc)....for less money than a GT500. He's done a rather fine job on his Mustang.

I suspect, if the Bullitt Mustang is produced, it'll be more of a cosmetic makeover, although they may make the odd performance tweak as per the Hertz special edition.

But it still won't be as cool as this cool

Well that's obviously a photoshop but the range is speculated to be looking like this:
Mustang V6, Mustang GT (300hp), Shelby Mustang (325hp) and the GT500.

The speculation prior to the Bullitt was a midway 380hp Boss Mustang but it's anyone's guess what this Bullitt will get but I don't see Shelby being too happy if it's placed above his in the hierarchy. The last Bullitt was an upgrade from the stock GT so my money is on the Bullitt getting 325hp and the Shelby getting the higher output. That would make sense as a line-up, keeping the Shelbys at the top end.

Dear TTurbo

I really find myself going back to the original (no disrespect to the modern Mustang owners) each time I see one cloud9

Modern cars are constrained in their design by modern safety requirements so it's not surprising that most people prefer the Sixties stuff. Once you've driven the Sixties stuff though....

Indeed, I think to really enjoy a classic, it's best used at weekend and sunny days.

The quirks of a classic (wayward handling, dodgy ventilation, minimal safety features etc) may soon overcome the better looks & noise etc when used everyday.

Or you could have both, I 'spose

Now, THIS is a great looking GT. Fabulous colour combination and wheels, just keep the lip polished, but have the spokes body-coloured lick

too bling

good if you are 25-30 years old

actually very good

personally I need a very understated colour, no bling, no stripes, no dodgy writings...

keep it as clean as possible in the desing - but this is for myself only

AM

PS: one can always modernize handling, brakes and air-con whilst respecting the overall "structure" of the car. We have the technology

For the 2005 Mustang, your best bet is black paint, a set of black or metallic aftermarket wheels and essentially the spoiler delete option. Something like this but with better wheels:

Then, like me, you bolt on a 462hp supercharger.

You can certainly improve the old Mustangs but the factors militating against that at present are:

(1) the prices of the desirable fastbacks have gone through the ceiling and are harder to find
(2) you'll still realistically be looking at an engine rebuild and 50 year old parts.
(3) at it's best, it will still not handle as well as a stock 2005 Mustang.

For those of us without the will to fight rust on a daily basis, worry about the electrics and period-correct disfunctionality of a classic, the brand new Mustang does a great job of being the best of both worlds. However, wait until 2008 as they have a restyle on the cards. I'm guessing that with the new Camaro and Challenger hitting production, the revised Mustang will be an even better rendition of the classic you desire.

aston67.....I'm 35, and still like a little bling. Not normally a fan of stripes, but American cars, the Mustang in particular, can get away with it.

Probably appeals to the (old) boy racer in me

Yes, I'm 47 and my last car was a bestriped Camaro. I've fought the stripes on the Mustang long and hard but a flame job is not out of the question yet....

Then again, side by side...

But that one would cost a fortune.

the classic has to win

the hump on the back wheels has gone in the new model

and it is such humps that make the Mustang very attractive like the 80s Aston V8 Vantage

indeed a beautiful car

This is, perhaps, my favourite modern take on the new Mustang (any excuse to repost )

Sure, the cover over the rear side window won't do much for visibility, but I think it makes it a whole lot meaner, along with the vent in front of the rear wheel.

A remake of BULLITT is getting ready to be filmed.

Actor David McDivitt (www.davidmcdivitt.com/) (http://imdb.com/name/nm1796851/)to play "Jame Bullitt" in the film "The Pentagon Memo"

The government contracted out to two labs. One to make an airborne
virus that has a 48 hour incubation period and the other that makes
the antidote.

In an attempt to cover up a security leak, a memo was sent to General
Lewis from The Pentagon to destroy all evidence of such tests.

General Lewis feeling betrayed goes rogue and he steals the virus and
kidnaps a woman's child. He instructs her to steal the antidote. Her
child has 48 hours to live and in doing so she is chased by the D.O.D.

She calls her Ex-Husband "Detective James Bullitt" for help.
Now it is up to James Bullitt to save his child and ex-wife.

I know we live in a world of recycling, but why the hell do they have to do it to every classic film ever made!

It's not as if they're any good, I can't think of a single remake that was superior to the original (unless you count Lord of the Rings vs. the 70s animated version )

The Mustang TwinTurbo said he loved but Aston67 said is to bling is mine.

I wish I was 25-30, but infact I am 50+ so I suppose I am just having a mid-life crisis!

I do agree my car is a bit blink but Chrome 'Bullit' mags really show the car off to its best advantage whilst keeping with tradition with wheel design.

If I was to change my car (for another Mustang of course) it would be Black - no stripes, polished rims and black centres, lowered and screaming supercharger, you see I have not grown up - my motto is 'You are a long time dead, enjoy it while you can.

By the way my car is my daily driver, wheels polished every week!

they are going to remake also the Long Good Friday

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainm

madness!

Production company Handmade Films said the story would be "refreshed" with a modern setting. Filming is due to start in Miami in 2008 under the direction of Paul W S Anderson, who made Resident Evil.

With these elements I can sleep confident that it will be a good remake as The Italian Job and Get Carter!!!!
