Very very nice. Can I be picky? Just how much space is there between the top of the tyre and the wheelarch? eek That needs to be lowered a good couple of inches, and lose those wheels.

Paint it black with silver stripes and it'd be cloud9

It's all relative. 12.9 for the 1/4 mile for the coupe and a more drawn-out 13.4 for the even heavier convertible. Terrific value at list price but not at the $20k mark-up currently being paid. Talk about an instant way to burn money. Of course, some people will always pay the mark-up to be first and to get hold of a Shelby because they think it will be collectible - but even on the Mustang forums in the US, they see this car as a lot of weighty hype. Having said that, if you want to seriously modify it, the iron block and strengthened internals is the best base to start from. But give me a Saleen Extreme any day of the week.

Ah I can see the photos now and was rather surprised to see the Auto Express review photos too which show no interior upgrade, just the base plastic. What were they thinking? It should be stock on a top of the range car. What an odd decision. Probably too busy paying Shelby his fat greedy slice of the pie to worry about giving the buyers a decent interior.

I saw 2 new Mustangs normal GT yesterday (not the GT 500!): one in silver at the Trout Inn in Wolvercote and the other one in red at Woodstock.

I was not impressed and they do look plasticky (especially in silver).

There is really no space on the back for 2 passangers (even if they are children) and the enigne soundtrack was less than phenomenal.

At $40,000 one can accept some compromises, by all means. At £40,000... not a chance

I guess I have to focus on a late 60s Mustang 290 Fastback

Yes but you can get a GT with the cheap interior for £23k not £40k. The stock exhaust ain't bad on a Mustang either so can only assume they didn't try very hard and finally, there is infinitely more space in the back of a Mustang than your average Aston/Jag/911 rear seats. There's plenty of room for my 6 year old (but I'm only 5'6". I agree the base interior just isn't good enough for £40k but the Premium upgrade isn't a lot and make sit no worse than a Monaro. The difference is that for £40k, you're paying for the 500hp not the interior. I think BMW will charge you just a fraction more....

I've had 2 adults in the back of mine. Obviously not as spacious as a real 4-door. But they got in, and comfortable enough for a 30 min journey.

The GT doesn't sound good!? If it's on standard exhausts then it will be quiet under idle or light cruising. But with a pair of Borla's on it and under load, the soundtrack is awesome! It sounds loud and proper muscle car sounding.

A GT with the premium interior upgrade is just good enough to satisfy.

I do love the look of the Mustang and I was quite keen to see on the normal GT form some "wow" effect

so I guess I have either buy my dream classic Mustang or to make a trip to a good Mustang dealer to test this GT 500 and close the case once and for all

I agree on the space on the back of MODERN Astons... but since I have a classic V8 Aston I judge on that. And in the classic V8 Vantage there is plenty of space for four people.

I have 2 more shelbys on there way in the second is unsold and if arrives still unsold then test drives will not be a problem. I aim to have one at MPH at earls court in november. As for sound it does have the standars mustang exhaust. The one we have at the moment has had Borla exhausts fitted and sounds like a true muscle car should. We are also having 20 inch Gianelli V5 chrome wheels fitted for the customer. We tried foose wheels but no foose wheels for the mustang fit round the shelby's brembo brakes. We spoke to foose but they haven't done a shelby yet and couldn't believe there was one in th u.k..The rear seats are not that bad. Photos do not do the back seats justice. I am 6ft and fairly broad and I reguarly sit back there on test drives. Granted I would not want to be back there for more than say an hour but that is more due to there not being able to open rear windows than the fact it is uncomfortable. I hope some of you come in to see a Gt500 at some point i think the doubters will be pleasantly suprised.

I would like to know if one can spec these cars

Because I want a Mustang totally understated (other than the noise!) . No stripes, no bling stupid wheels, dark metallic tungsten etc or even dark green

is it doable or not?

TIA

Hi --no stripes is easy as there is a factory delete on these. The wheels in the photos are standard but they are not particuarly blingy. They do not do a green but they do a new colour called Alloy grey in the shelby which is a nice subtle colour. These are rare but I have been offered one. Spec to your exact requirements is not a problem.

Still haven't declared the price though. If you're paying the US premium for the cars, your price is likely to be a little uncompetitive compared to a Saleen Extreme which was expensive to start with but hasn't got a premium attached. Out of interest, do you sell Saleens?

Normally, I can't fault what Chip Foose does to cars. I'm being very picky, but the blacked out rear lights just scream "Halfords" and I don't like the "Boss" stripes.

Still, both would be easily fixed.

Those Foose wheels are lick
