Hi all,

"lend me your ears"

Im after a new daily, and now got an itch to scratch. I was looking at a Mustang, read the reviews when it came out, been car shopping for a few months, found a nice one, then ended up at BMW last night thrashing an M4 along the country roads.....(damn thats a nice car!)!!! Yup, falling back into old habits (owned 911 & M3 of past).

My main gripe is that I hate rattles, the only Stangs ive driven are rentals in the States - what are they like to live with?

Rattles aside, what are the other big issues - Coming from German fit and finish, id hate myself if I didnt like the Stang. I read that the AC can be a bit weak - and thats pretty much it. If so, its surely got to be the car to go for. Especially as ive just learnt about the M4 Crank Hub issues!

If not the stang, I may just end up back in an old porka. I do miss the modern comforts which would come with the S550.

Thanks for letting me vent and chew on your ears smile

Andy

I have a 2016 GT with 50K on it and no rattles.

There a nice place to be and can shift when needed. Its not going to handle like a M4 but there are so many aftermarket parts available for the Mustang you can pretty much upgrade any thing on the car if you wanted to.

The fit and finish isn't up there with German brands but the asking price isn't either.

They are holding there value quite well too. I paid 25k for mine last October and the cheapest GT's are still around the 25k mark almost a year later.

You really need to drive on UK roads to see if you will like it.

Also the Mustang gets a lot of attention and so far all positive.

My mustang had two rattles in 30 months of ownership and one was actually a stone trapped in the wheel arch lining. The other was the seatbelt buckle which was replaced. I had endless rattles that needed fixing on my 3 Audi’s so as much as the interior quality is cheaper in the mustang it performed better!

I really enjoyed the mustang and people seem to love them, always complimented the car and lots of people showed an interest. In stock form it’s not the best car to drive but they are designed to be modified (I didn’t bother) and can be made quite capable and extremely powerful if that’s your thing.

But the main reason you should have one is the engine. It’s an absolute peach, makes a beautiful sound, highly addictive.

To be honest, if you are hung up on build quality, don't bother with a Mustang. On my car the glovebox is squint, the rear bumper is out of true by a couple of mm, the N/S front wing sits proud of the door, etc. Rattle wise, it isn't too bad, occasional squeak from the passenger front seat. Simple fact is Ford American made cars aren't up to German build standards, but then they are at least £20K cheaper model by model.

Character? Oh yes loads of that. Charm. Yep, that too. Gets remarked on all the time, indeed, even almost 3 years on.

Win some, lose some. Would I change it, absolutely not.

Had my GT for just over three years now, had Peddlers coil overs fitted, retrimmed wheel by Royal steering wheels, Borla exhaust, and recently new wheels and tyres. Didn't think I would have it much more than a year or so. I had never modded a car before buying this one. Only problem I have had was The a/c which took Ford four or five attempts to finally sort out. Can't think of what to replace it with, so it will probably get more power and a few other mods.

perhaps some context i rand an e92 comp pack M3 and a 2016 mustang GT

Pros for M3 vs mustang - handing, size, feeling of power and sheer velocity pumping through the DCT

Cons for M3 vs mustang - brakes, long term comfort, sounds system, economy, cost of servicing and parts

If you put the following on a mustang it is a very fast ( 500 bhp plus and reasonably nimble for size machine ) and mitigates some of the pros

- KW v3
- Wider wheels and PS2
- 2018 intake system and remap - really wakes up the coyote
- rear cradle lock out

I still have the mustang and dont have the m3 - the mustang costs me 400 pounds a year in service costs - full set of yellow stuff pads 200 quid, service is 350 quid. insurance is cheaper.

Good thread and for me the 5 Litre Mustang and M4 are currently two of my favourite cars and I'd struggle to choose between the two.

I love the noise/individual nature/engine of the Mustang, but I love the looks/less weight/overall performance of the M4(it is much quicker than the Mustang).

Both great cars either way for me though.

Thank you everyone. It’s certainly leaning towards the Mustang now and I’ll scratch that itch at the very least. smile

I’m planning on test driving a Mustang next week - only issue is they are all so far away (closest is 2hr drive). So if I go look - I’ll buy!

I’ve now learnt the Mustang only needs a few choice mods to make it more of a B road blaster. I’m happy knowing it’s not the handling / performance of the M4, it has however bags of character and will likely entertain me everyday.

Royal wheels wheel and exhaust is high on the list

I've just got a Mustang GT, albeit the convertible and so far it's a joy.

I've had various cars before including a few from our German friends and the main thing for me is character and attention.

They do make it hard to resist the temptation for little upgrades (I've done the H-pipe resonator delete mod) and there is a lot you can do if you wish.

The interior is a really nice place to be, whilst not quite German in terms of quality it is significantly better than I was expecting.

I'd recommend one!
