Having dirty thoughts about a Mustang . . .
Discussion
Please help me. I'm having dirty thoughts about buying a current shape Mustang and supercharging it.
Ideally I'd buy a second hand car already upgraded but there are not many about or crazy priced considering its something like 10k to buy and fit the supercharger kit.
Please help put me off trading in a 997.2C4S!

Go for it.
I bought a 16 GT last October standard from Ford and it is now 640hp & 620lbft at the wheels or around 740ish hp at the flywheel.
It owes me about 35k including the car but all work done by me. Had I paid someone I’d be easy 40k into it.
The car is just silly now but usable when you want it to be.

I would personally buy a Hellcat to go down that road, especially now that they are UK available at £50k - £55k. A complete package designed with 700 bhp plus out of the box. The handing and brakes on the 5.0 S550 soon reach their limitations at stock power levels IME so I would be spending even more on supporting upgrades to go with supercharging. Would not waste my money.
"Wouldn't waste my money". Huh?!
A GT can be bought for anywhere between 25K and 35K (there's one on a FB group with only 1700 miles and LOADS of mods for £35K), £10-12K will get it supercharged, another £1K on discs and fluid since the calipers are already 6-pots, another £3K on some proper coilovers and it still comes in under the cheaper end of your price range for the Hellcat. Which is still wrong-hand drive.
If I were you though OP, I'd go for a ride in a supercharged one before you spend any money. I had plans to do it to mine after a year but I've had it tuned (470bhp N/A) and it will still spin the wheels into 3rd in the dry. Supercharged ones aren't all that unless it's a hot, dry day as they just can't put the power down effectively.
If you buy a facelifted one ('18-onwards) with a few cheapish mods (sub-£4K) they will make 520-530bhp N/A.
And yes, supercharged ones are up for silly money as with like lots of other cars, the owner always seems to think he should get back at least what he's put into it, if not more.

Everyone has a different approach and ideas which is great and its rare to see a totally stock Mustang. If I was set on a supercharged S550 I would wait for the right one already done at the right price. Otherwise its a sure-fire way to loose a bunch of money. Been there, done that. But some can afford it more than others and like the whole involvement thing of doing their own mods. As Centurion says definitely try out a stock one if you haven't already - do you 'really' need a supercharged one ? I'm still a little wary of the '18 up cars at the moment - I went to look at an Orange Fury GT with 2k miles on the clock and on start up from cold it sounded like a bag of spanners compared to my '17 which is silent.

Whereabouts in the UK are you? Can have a look and see if we (Simply Mustangs UK) can get an owner to show you the car - loads have done it. Where else would you get 750 - 850hp for sub £40k - also now of an owner that has a supercharged who is looking to sell...email me if you need any help.Ideally I'd buy a second hand car already upgraded but there are not many about or crazy priced considering its something like 10k to buy and fit the supercharger kit.

I'm based in Market Harborough in the east midlands. Would be very happy if any local owners would be happy for me to have a nose around.Gassing Station | Mustangs | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
