Hello all, I need some advice regards registering the mustang. I’ve been living with it in America for a while and now had it imported to the UK, my shipping company has carried out a NOVA, however I am filling in the DVLA document to register it. I am unsure as to wether it needs an IVA test or similar? I have it insured on the VIN. With it being 65 it doesn’t need tax or MOT. The DVLA paperwork is asking for answers from a Certificate of Conformity which I understand is not applicable(?) or IVA test results, which I am unsure if it needs? As I understand it, I’ll just need to swap the headlights to deflect the correct way and I’m good to go? Worried the DVLA form is a little blank that’s all.

Coincidentally, I moved an imported Mustang to and from the owner's house to a mechanic's on my truck, then went back to take it to an MoT station where it failed despite the mechanic's best efforts. But at least they knew what was wrong with it. The owner and mechanic had been told it needed at least an initial MoT before it could be granted a UK registration. HTH

Ok, I don’t suppose you remember where they got the information about it needing an MOT or whom told them? The gov.uk website is quite adequate with information but it lacks in the specifics. Think the best bet is for me to give them a ring and discuss the circumstances.

I'll call the mechanic tomorrow and ask him.

Doesn’t need an IVA or a CoC, just keep filling out the paperwork as is.

He's not as his best first thing so I sent him a text outlining the problem and my thoughts that the imported car would need an MoT as a starting point for the authorities to work with. His response was pithy:

"You were correct, needs proof of lights changeover and st."

After all, the guy who owns the car is trying to do the job right. He didn't drive to the mechanic's and then to the MoT station, he employed me and my truck.

I've driven a 289 Mustang.
