Stupid question but.....

What's the actual real-world difference on the 2018 10-speed auto gearbox between putting it in S and putting it in D? I know that D is Drive and S is Sport, but what is the actual difference? Does it speed up gear-changes, for example? I've tried googling it but I can't find an explanation.
There's a youtuber called Ecobeast who's posted some reviews on, er, Youtube, he went from ecoboost (no, really?) to 2018 GT 10R80 and, apparently, does not miss his manual. He posts up some good stuff and, to answer your point, it seems to be a bit more frenetic in sport mode, holds the gears longer and stays in the power band as one would expect. Personally, I'm still planning on the manual, custom pack 4 (I think, the one with the forged alloys and no chrome) and the mag dampers.
I don’t know for certain. But as a rule Sports mode will make it more responsive. Ie it’ll downshift with less throttle input. It will downshift further, maybe drop 2 or 3 gears instead of just one. Will hang onto the revs more. Such as upshift later making more use of the revs and might even hold onto a gear when you lift and let it engine brake more and provide better throttle when you get back on the power.
